NBA TO STREAM ON NBA APP ALL FRENCH LEAGUE GAMES FEATURING FRENCH STAR VICTOR WEMBANYAMA
– NBA to Distribute Select LNB Betclic ELITE Games and Events on the NBA App –
NEW YORK, Oct. 27, 2022 – The NBA today announced that all Boulogne-Levallois Metropolitans 92 games – featuring French star and top 2023 NBA Draft prospect Victor Wembanyama – will be available for free on the new NBA App throughout the 2022-23 LNB Betclic ELITE regular season and playoffs. The live streams will debut on Saturday, Oct. 29, when the Metropolitans 92 play JL Bourg Basket at 2 p.m. ET.
The NBA is streaming several marquee events from the LNB Betclic ELITE – the top tier of the French League – on the NBA App, including regular-season and playoff games, Leaders Cup Games (Feb. 17-19) and the LNB All-Star Game (Dec. 29). Click here to view a preliminary schedule of games.
The LNB Betclic ELITE will be the first non-NBA affiliated league to have its games live streamed within the reimagined NBA App, building upon the NBA’s goal to bring fans live basketball from professional leagues around the world. NBA NAMES TAMMY HENAULT NEW CHIEF MARKETING OFFICER
NEW YORK, Oct. 27, 2022 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced that Tammy Henault has been named Chief Marketing Officer of the NBA. Henault, the current Senior Vice President, Marketing, Streaming of Paramount+, will report to NBA Deputy Commissioner and Chief Operating Officer Mark Tatum. She will officially join the league on Nov. 21, 2022.
In her new role as Chief Marketing Officer, Henault will lead all global marketing efforts for the NBA and its affiliate leagues to engage fans and further the organization’s mission to inspire and connect people everywhere through the power of basketball. Additionally, she will play a leading role in driving the launch of the NBA’s Next Gen platform, working hand-in-hand with the product and content teams on the reimagined NBA App and NBA ID, the league’s new global membership program offering fans benefits and rewards.
Henault joins the NBA from Paramount Global, where she managed a team of more than 150 employees responsible for brand, partnership and performance marketing as well as audience development, customer acquisition and retention. In 2021, Henault led the marketing strategy for the global launch of Paramount+, which was named the year’s No. 1 fastest growing brand in America by Morning Consult and drove record subscriptions. In her eight years at the company, she also led award-winning campaigns for more than 100 original and exclusive shows and movies, including 1883, Halo, Star Trek: Discovery and The Good Fight, live sports programming and other original library content, and led the go-to-market strategy for CBS All Access, the first direct-to-consumer subscription service for a major U.S. television network.

She also held various direct-to-consumer and performance marketing positions at PEOPLE, TIME and InStyle magazine divisions.

TORONTO’S UJIRI FINED
NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2022 – Toronto Raptors President Masai Ujiri has been fined $35,000 for approaching the scorer’s table and directing inappropriate remarks toward a game official, it was announced today by Byron Spruell, President, League Operations.
The incident occurred during the Raptors’ 112-109 loss to the Miami Heat on Saturday, Oct. 22 at FTX Arena.
BOSTON’S GRANT WILLIAMS SUSPENDED
NEW YORK, Oct. 26, 2022 – Boston Celtics forward Grant Williams has been suspended one game without pay for recklessly making contact with and directing inappropriate language toward a game official, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.
The contact, for which Williams was assessed a technical foul and ejected, occurred with 8:58 remaining in the fourth quarter of Boston’s 120-102 loss to the Chicago Bulls on Oct. 24 at United Center.
Williams will serve his suspension Friday, Oct. 28 when the Celtics play host to the Cleveland Cavaliers.
NBA ACADEMY GRADUATE BABACAR SANE SIGNS WITH IGNITE
HENDERSON, Nev., Oct. 26, 2022 – NBA Academy graduate Babacar Sane of Senegal has signed with NBA G League Ignite, General Manager Anthony McClish announced today.
The 19-year-old guard becomes the fifth NBA Academy graduate to sign with Ignite, joining fellow 2022-23 Ignite players Efe Abogidi of Nigeria and Mojave King of Australia and Ignite alums Dyson Daniels of Australia and Princepal Singh of India.
Sane also joins Abogidi as the two players to sign with Ignite after participating in NBA Academy Africa, an elite basketball training center in Saly, Senegal, for top high school-age prospects from across Africa. A native of Bignona, Senegal, Sane started with NBA Academy Africa in 2019.
Sane was one of the 12 prospects from NBA Academy Africa selected to play in the 2022 Basketball Africa League (BAL) season through the BAL Elevate program, competing for Dakar Université Club.
In international competition, Sane has played with the Senegalese National Team at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 African Qualifiers. He has appeared in five games as the youngest member of the team. Sane also represented Senegal at the 2020 FIBA U18 African Championship, where he averaged 14.0 points and 6.0 rebounds in five games and helped the team reach the final.
Sane becomes the seventh player on the 2022-23 Ignite roster who has not gone through the NBA Draft process yet, joining Abogidi, King, Sidy Cissoko, Scoot Henderson, London Johnson and Leonard Miller. Both Sane and Johnson will be eligible for the 2024 NBA Draft and have signed with Ignite for two seasons.

NBA AND NBPA ANNOUNCE “RESPECT FOR THE GAME” PROGRAM
NEW YORK, Oct. 25, 2022 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) and the National Basketball Players Association (NBPA) today announced a “Respect for the Game” program to encourage respectful behavior at all levels of the sport.
In a joint statement, NBA Commissioner Adam Silver and NBPA Executive Director Tamika Tremaglio said: “Respect and dignity are core values of both the NBA and the NBPA. With the start of a new NBA season, we are reaffirming our commitment to promoting healthy and courteous relationships among players, coaches, referees, fans and parents throughout the game.”

NEW YORK, Oct. 23, 2022 – Miami Heat forward Caleb Martin has been suspended one game without pay for instigating an on-court altercation by taunting Toronto Raptors center Christian Koloko and then tackling him into the spectator stands, and Koloko has been fined $15,000 for grabbing Martin during the altercation, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.
Heat forward Nikola Jovic has also been suspended one game without pay for leaving the bench area and entering the altercation. The incident, for which Martin and Koloko were each assessed one technical foul and ejected, began when the players became entangled while battling for rebounding position. The incident occurred with 7:46 remaining in the third quarter of the Heat’s 112-109 win over the Raptors at FTX Arena on Oct. 22.
Martin and Jovic will serve their suspensions on Monday, Oct. 24 when the Heat again host the Raptors at FTX Arena.

NBA OFFICIAL TONY BROWN PASSES AWAY
NEW YORK, Oct. 20, 2022 – Longtime NBA official Tony Brown passed away today surrounded by his family, friends and fellow officials after a courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was 55.
“We are and have been sustained by the consistent outpouring of love and support through this journey in developing strength, acceptance and peace,” said Tony’s wife, Tina Brown. “We ask that you join us in that spirit as we prepare to celebrate Tony’s life. Our biggest thank you to our village of family and friends, near and far, old and new. Your love is immeasurable. Thanks to the Lustgarten Foundation and PanCan. Keep striving for the cures. Many, many thanks to our NBRA and NBA family whose generosity is unmatched. And a very special thank you to the Emory/Bridgeway Hospice Unit. Your compassion and care went above and beyond. “Tony Brown was one of the most accomplished referees in the NBA and an inspiration to his colleagues,” said NBA Commissioner Adam Silver. “After his pancreatic cancer diagnosis early last year, Tony fought courageously through countless rounds of treatment to return to work this past season at the NBA Replay Center, demonstrating the dedication, determination and passion that made him such a highly respected official for 20 years. The entire NBA family mourns Tony’s passing and we send our deepest condolences to his wife, Tina; their children, Bailey, Basile and Baylen; and his fellow referees.”
Brown officiated 1,110 regular-season games and 35 playoff games in 20 seasons as an NBA staff official. He made his debut as an NBA Finals referee during the 2019-20 season. A graduate of Clark Atlanta University, a Historically Black College and University (HBCU), Brown was a member of the crew that officiated the 2021 NBA All-Star Game in Atlanta, which honored HBCUs.

CLEVELAND CHARGE SELECT SAM MERRILL
WITH FIRST PICK OF 2022-23 NBA G LEAGUE DRAFT
NEW YORK, Oct. 22, 2022 – The Cleveland Charge selected Sam Merrill (6-4, 205, Utah State) with the first overall pick of the 2022-23 NBA G League Draft on Saturday afternoon, which was held virtually. The Wisconsin Herd selected Joe Wieskamp with the second overall selection, while the Greensboro Swarm selected Aaron Wheeler with the third pick.
In 2021-22, Merrill played six games with the Memphis Grizzlies and seven contests with the Memphis Hustle. Merrill averaged 14.4 points, 4.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists during his time with the Hustle last season. The Albuquerque-native was selected No. 60 overall by the New Orleans Pelicans in the NBA Draft 2020 presented by State Farm®.
Weiskamp (6-6, 205, Iowa) spent time on a two-way contract with the San Antonio Spurs throughout the 2021-22 NBA season. The No. 41 overall pick in the NBA Draft 2021 presented by State Farm® appeared in 29 games for San Antonio last year, while also playing in 28 games with the Austin Spurs throughout the 2021-22 NBA G League calendar, where he averaged 15.4 points along with 4.0 rebounds.
Amauri Hardy (6-1, 200, NBA G League Ignite) was selected 10th overall by the Texas Legends, making him the first NBA G League Ignite player to be taken in the NBA G League Draft. Mayan Kiir (6-9, 220, New Mexico State) was selected 15th overall by the Westchester Knicks and is the first Basketball Africa League player to be taken in an NBA G League Draft.
Ryan Turell (6-7, 190, Yeshiva) was drafted 27th overall by the Motor City Cruise. Turell, who was named the 2021-22 NABC Division III Player of the Year, becomes the first Orthodox Jewish player to be selected in the NBA G League Draft.
Norris Cole (6-2, 170, Cleveland State) was drafted 45th by the Grand Rapids Gold. The NBA veteran won two NBA championships while with the Miami Heat in back-to-back seasons (2011-12, 2012-13). In six NBA seasons, Cole averaged 7.0 points and 2.7 assists.
