USA Basketball won all seven of their games at the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup 2022 in Malaga, Spain, including a 79-67 triumph over the hosts in the Final. The USA also won the FIBA U18 Americas Championship 2022 in Mexico, recording six wins in as many games.
Following their latest championship successes, the USA are ranked No. 1 with 828 points while Spain are No. 2 with 722.6 points. In addition to reaching the title game in Malaga, Spain won the FIBA U18 European Championship 2022 in Izmir, Turkey, claiming seven victories in as many games.
At No. 3 are France (720.7), whose only defeat at the U17 World Cup was in the Semi-Finals against Spain. The French won the Third-Place Game against Lithuania to finish with six wins in seven games, and at the U18 European Championship, the team won six of its seven games and came in fifth.
Australia have jumped four places to No. 4 after going 5-2 at the U17 World Cup, with their only two defeats coming against higher ranked teams, Spain and Serbia. The Australians also won the FIBA U16 Asian Championship 2022 in Qatar with a perfect 6-0 record.
Both Brazil and Poland had huge jumps to climb into the top 15. Aiding Brazil's rise was an appearance in the Final at the FIBA U18 Americas Championship, where the country won one of its two games against higher-ranked Canada. Poland were No. 49 but jumped 33 places to No. 15. Contributing factors were the victories over higher ranked teams - Argentina and Egypt - at the U17 World Cup, and at the U18 European Championship - Germany, Greece and Montenegro.
The new system for the FIBA World Ranking Youth was launched earlier this year.

DECEMBER 12, 2022MIES (Switzerland) - The three hosts of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, have selected preferred teams to play the Group Phase in their respective countries. FIBA’s Central Board has confirmed, after consultation with the host nations, that USA will play in the Philippines, Slovenia will travel to Japan and Canada will land in Indonesia. Both Slovenia and Canada have qualified for the World Cup, while USA are in a good position to clinch a berth in the tournament field in the last Window of the Qualifiers. Each host could select a preferred team based on commercial reasons, as their choice will have no impact on the integrity of the event or the draw process. As was the case at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 with China, the Philippines, as tournament host for the Group Phase and Final phase, will be placed in Pot 1 for the draw. They will be joined in Pot 1 by the best ranked teams in the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike after the last qualifying window to be played in February 2023. For that reason, USA and Philippines will be placed in two different groups of the four that will take place in the Philippines. Japan has chosen the No. 7 team, Slovenia. Japan and Slovenia will play their Group Phase in Okinawa, where two groups will be played. Canada will play in Jakarta, Indonesia, with two of the 8 top teams of the FIBA World Ranking Men joining them in the two groups in Indonesia. The complete FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Draw Principles will be defined after Window 6 of the Qualifiers in February is complete and once all 32 qualified teams are known. DECEMBER 11, 2022 ABU DHABI (UAE) - Ub Huishan NE (SRB) won the 11th season of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in Abu Dhabi, defeating Vienna (AUT) in the championship game on December 11, 2022.
The Serbian squad, who won the first four 3x3 World Tour Masters of the season won their first World Tour title in Abu Dhabi defeating Vienna 21-18. Strahinja Stojacic and Marko Brankovic, the MVP of the World Tour Abu Dhabi Final, led Ub in scoring in the final with 6 points apiece, while Dejan Majstorovic, who won his 5th World Tour title, contributed with 5. Stefan Stojacic scored 13 points in Vienna's effort and finished as top scorer of the tournament with 49 points.

DECEMBER 4, 2022 CAIRO (Egypt) - Madagascar's men and Egypt's women won the FIBA 3x3 Africa Cup 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, on December 3-4.
3x3 Africa Cup 2017 bronze-medalists Madagascar conquered gold this time defeating hosts and 2019 winners Egypt in the title game 20-17. Livio Ratianarivo, with 12 points in the final, led Madagascar to gold, while the MVP of the competition, Elly Randriamampionona scored 4 and finished as top scorer of the Africa Cup 2022 winners with 34 points overall.
The 25-year-old was joined in the Team of the Tournament by the top scorer of the competition and silver medalist Mido Taha (Egypt) and bronze medalist J.J Wilson, from Rwanda.
In the women's competition, Egypt won their second straight 3x3 Africa Cup title (and also second overall) defeating Madagascar in the final. Soraya Mohamed was Egypt's top scorer in the title game with 9 points, while Nadine Mohamed, who was named MVP of the competition, contributed with 4.
She was joined in the team in the tournament by Madagascar's Rondro Raherimanana and Debora Mayimona, who won bronze with the Democratic Republic of the Congo and finished as the top scorer in the women's competition.

DECEMBER 2, 2022 CAIRO (Egypt) - Hosts Egypt won gold in both the men's and women's categories at the FIBA 3x3 U17 Africa Cup 2022 in Cairo, Egypt, on December 1-2.
In the men's category, Egypt won gold in a breathtaking final against the Democratic Republic of the Congo 20-17. Karim Elgizawy led the gold-medal winners in the final with 9 points while the tournament MVP Bahaa Ramadan contributed with 5. He jas joined in the Team of the Tournament by David Akim from the Democratic Republic of the Congo and Rami Younous, who won bronze for Morocco and finished as top scorer of the competition.

The final meeting of the year coincided with the FIBA Hall of Fame Class of 2022 Ceremony, also held at FIBA's headquarters, which celebrated nine individuals that made enormous contributions to women's basketball. The following key topics were discussed during the meeting: FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022The Central Board approved the report of the recent FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup 2022, which was held in Sydney, Australia. With a hugely successful event that achieved unprecedented broadcast, attendance, digital and social media numbers, the Central Board celebrated the numerous records that were broken on and off the court, as well as the recent announcement of the event achieving carbon neutral status. FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 and QualifiersReports were received on the recent windows that have taken place for the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Qualifiers across the regions. Window 5 saw impressive crowds attending important qualifying games. The final window will be played in February 2023, with the journey to the Philippines, Indonesia and Japan nearly complete. Regarding the last game day of the Qualifiers, the Central Board decided that games which can potentially affect the qualification of other teams will be played at the same time. Status reports were also received on preparations for the upcoming World Cup that tips off on August 25 and the Central Board also confirmed the Draw will take place in Manila, Philippines on April 29, 2023. FIBA Youth World CupsFollowing the decision on the FIBA Youth World Cups hosts 2024-2027, the Central Board received reports on the FIBA U17 Basketball World Cup and FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup that were held in July and heard status reports on preparations for the upcoming FIBA U19 Basketball World Cups in Debrecen and FIBA U19 Women's Basketball World Cup in Madrid. FIBA Continental CupsThe FIBA AmeriCup 2022 in Brazil, and the FIBA EuroBasket 2022, hosted across the Czech Republic, Georgia, Germany and Italy, were both successfully executed in September. Detailed reports were presented to the Central Board on the numerous successes reached by these exciting events. Paris Olympic Games 2024 and Qualification SystemThe Central Board received a report on the venues for the 2024 Olympic Basketball Tournaments, whereby the Final Phase is due to be held in the Bercy Arena in Paris. Regarding the Group Phase, the Central Board has acknowledged the extraordinary reasons invoked by Paris 2024 and the International Olympic Committee regarding the hosting of the games in Lille. Considering the proximity of the Games and the significant joint efforts by all parties and their experts, it has been exceptionally decided to conditionally approve such venue, pending confirmation that the FIBA requirements are met, notably those relating to the health and safety of the players and the associated risks.
The Central Board also approved the bidding process and conditions for the FIBA Olympic Pre-Qualifying Tournaments due to take place from August 12 to 20, 2023. Club CompetitionsUpdates were presented to the Central Board on the Basketball Champions League current season, which tipped off in October, the Basketball Champions League Americas fourth season, set to tip off in December, and the Road to BAL 2023 which was recently played from October 11 to November 27. A status report was also given on the newly formed West Asia Super League (WASL), which is scheduled to start on December 19. 3x3An update was given to the Board on the soon-to-be complete FIBA 3x3 season, with the final stop, the FIBA 3x3 World Tour Final 2022, taking place in Abu Dhabi on December 10 and 11. DECEMBER 1, 2022MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA's Central Board has confirmed that Bahrain is to host the FIBA Mid-Term Congress in 2025, thanks to a partnership with the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Basketball Association. It will mark the third time a Mid-Term Congress has been held, with the first in 2017 in Hong Kong and the second delivered online in 2021. The entire basketball community will be reunited in Bahrain and will have the opportunity to meet with the hosting country's basketball and sports representatives. The Mid-Term Congress, to be held in late spring of 2025, will be a two-day event that will include breakout sessions for guests and attendees. The 212 National Federations that make up the Congress will also hear reports on FIBA's activities that have occurred since the FIBA Congress 2023, which is to be held in the Philippines to coincide with next year's FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. Scola, the World Cup's second all-time top scorer with 716 points, is one of the true legends of the competition. He appeared in five editions, and his mark of 41 games played is tied for first in the men's competition's history with Brazilian great Ubiratan Pereira Maciel. Scola was there when Argentina came within a whisker of winning the title at the 2002 World Cup in Indianapolis, but fell in overtime. At the 2006 World Cup in Japan, Scola's role had grown more important. He shot 55.3 percent from the field and averaged 14.3 points and seven rebounds as Argentina made it to the Semi-Final before suffering a 75-74 heartbreak to Spain. The 2010 World Cup in Turkey saw Scola turn in some of his finest performances. His 27.1 points per game scoring average was the highest in the tournament. One of his efforts was unforgettable, and it came in the Round of 16 against Brazil. Scola poured in 37 points and grabbed nine rebounds as Argentina prevailed in a 93-89 thriller. To the very end, Scola was a leading light for Argentina. At 40, he dominated the 2019 event in China, with his 28-point, 13-rebound performance in an 80-66 Semi-Final triumph over France helping clinch a spot in the World Cup title game for the second time in his career. Scola was named to the TISSOT All-Star Five.
Scola didn't just shine at World Cups but also in five Olympic tournaments. In 2004, Scola played an integral role as his country won the Olympic gold medal in Athens. He captured a bronze medal at the 2008 Beijing Games and was a Semi-Finalist at the 2012 Olympics in London. At the next Summer Games in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, in 2016, Scola served as Argentina's flagbearer during the Opening Ceremony. He became a five-time Olympian at the Tokyo Games, which were played in 2021. Scola also played in numerous FIBA AmeriCups, reaching the podium nine times. In 2007, 2009, 2011 and 2015, Scola was MVP at the event. "I'm truly honored to be a World Cup Global Ambassador and to take on this new role," Scola said. "I always wanted to represent Argentina, to sing the national anthem before games and to play alongside so many amazing players, and for great coaches. We always set out to win tournaments, but the most important thing was to give our best, to be good role models and to play for our country. To play every summer was also a priority because it helped me maintain my fitness for the following season. We had amazing victories. | The American team won all seven of their games at the FIBA U17 Women's Basketball World Cup 2022 in Hungary in July and have now a total of 847.8 points in the FIBA World Ranking Girls. USA Basketball also won the gold medal at the FIBA U18 Women's Americas Championship 2022. France move into the No. 2 spot with 751.1 points after winning six of their seven games at the U17 Women's World Cup 2022 finishing in third place. The French won another bronze medal this summer at the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2022. Spain's runners-up finish in Hungary helped them move up one place to No. 4. The country won six of seven games at the U17 WWC and took the silver medal at the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship this summer. Spain now has 697.4 points, just one less than No. 3 Australia (698.4). After Canada in fifth (681.2) are Hungary in sixth (674). Their U17 Women’s World Cup was particularly solid with five wins in seven games. They also won seven six of their seven games at the U16 Women’s European Championship 2022. Lithuania move up at No. 7 (653.3) after their title at the FIBA U18 Women's European Championship 2022. No. 9 Slovenia moved up 36 places to reach the top 10. Slovenia's rise owes to the country's five wins in their seven games at the U17 Women's World Cup, including triumphs over Australia and Japan, two teams that entered the tournament in the top 10 of the ranking. Finland have broken in to the top 20 of the ranking, moving up 10 places to No. 15. Legendary Los Angeles Lakers broadcaster Chick Hearn gave West the nickname “Mr. Clutch” for his extraordinary shooting at the end of close games. West is an NBA champion, 14-time NBA All-Star, NBA Finals MVP, NBA All-Star Game MVP, 12-time All-NBA Team selection and a member of the 35th, 50th and 75th NBA Anniversary Teams. During the 1971-72 season, West led the Lakers to a record 33 consecutive regular-season victories and an NBA championship. The trophy features an NBA player shooting a jump shot, modeled after West’s perfect form. “There are few greater thrills as a basketball player than coming through for your teammates and fans when they need it most,” said West, Special Advisor, LA Clippers. “This new trophy will be awarded to the player who best delivers in those moments.” The Jerry West Trophy, as well as the following newly designed trophies awarded to the Kia Performance Award winners, were designed in collaboration with Solomon. | La última etapa del torneo de Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF) comienza mañana martes, con el primer juego de la Serie Final 2022 en el coliseo Dr. Juan Sánchez Acevedo de Moca.
Los equipos protagonistas serán las campeonas Gigantes de Carolina y las Explosivas de Moca, siendo la primera vez que ambos quintetos se enfrentan en una serie por el campeonato.
“Toda la estructura del campeonato del año pasado cambió, excepto Tayra Meléndez y Rodsan (Rodríguez), que no podrá jugar porque se lesionó”, expresó Carlos Calcaño, dirigente de las Gigantes, máximas campeonas del BSNF con 17 cetros. “Estoy muy contento. Hay equipos que se encuentran muy tempranos y el equipo se encontró en el momento preciso. Sabrina (Haines) ha cambiado la estructura, le ha dado una ayuda a Charity (Harris), que al principio no la tenía como tal y ella ha sido una ‘combo guard’ que nos ha resultado muy bien”.
Carolina está en su sexta serie final en los pasados siete torneos. Mientras, Moca jugará su primera serie de campeonato en su tercer año de competencia.
“Yo soy de Moca, me crie ahí, mi familia es de ahí, es una experiencia super buena”, comentó el técnico de las Explosivas, Leonel Avilés. “Las muchachas se han dado cuenta que las personas están ahí, las personas se identifican mucho con ellas y ha sido una experiencia muy bonita para intentar llevar a Moca al primer campeonato en el basquetbol, tuvieron uno en el voleibol en el 2000, ahora estamos en baloncesto y esperamos que todo nos salga muy bien”.

DECEMBER 12, 2022MIES (Switzerland) - The three hosts of the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023, the Philippines, Japan and Indonesia, have selected preferred teams to play the Group Phase in their respective countries. FIBA’s Central Board has confirmed, after consultation with the host nations, that USA will play in the Philippines, Slovenia will travel to Japan and Canada will land in Indonesia. Both Slovenia and Canada have qualified for the World Cup, while USA are in a good position to clinch a berth in the tournament field in the last Window of the Qualifiers. Each host could select a preferred team based on commercial reasons, as their choice will have no impact on the integrity of the event or the draw process. As was the case at the FIBA Basketball World Cup 2019 with China, the Philippines, as tournament host for the Group Phase and Final phase, will be placed in Pot 1 for the draw. They will be joined in Pot 1 by the best ranked teams in the FIBA World Ranking Men, presented by Nike after the last qualifying window to be played in February 2023. For that reason, USA and Philippines will be placed in two different groups of the four that will take place in the Philippines. Japan has chosen the No. 7 team, Slovenia. Japan and Slovenia will play their Group Phase in Okinawa, where two groups will be played. Canada will play in Jakarta, Indonesia, with two of the 8 top teams of the FIBA World Ranking Men joining them in the two groups in Indonesia. The complete FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023 Draw Principles will be defined after Window 6 of the Qualifiers in February is complete and once all 32 qualified teams are known. DECEMBER 11, 2022 ABU DHABI (UAE) - Ub Huishan NE (SRB) won the 11th season of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour in Abu Dhabi, defeating Vienna (AUT) in the championship game on December 11, 2022.
The Serbian squad, who won the first four 3x3 World Tour Masters of the season won their first World Tour title in Abu Dhabi defeating Vienna 21-18. Strahinja Stojacic and Marko Brankovic, the MVP of the World Tour Abu Dhabi Final, led Ub in scoring in the final with 6 points apiece, while Dejan Majstorovic, who won his 5th World Tour title, contributed with 5. Stefan Stojacic scored 13 points in Vienna's effort and finished as top scorer of the tournament with 49 points.

The 30-year-old has dominated the World Tour's stats categories, where he leads player value (233.2), scoring (230) and highlights (156). Stojacic has also had major success at the international level where he was a key part of Serbia's gold medal winning double at the Crelan FIBA 3x3 World Cup 2022 and Europe Cup 2022. Stojacic aka 'Doctor Strange' dominated the players' vote with a whopping 32.7% to finish clear of his brother Stefan, who finished second with 15.4%. Moca, que había colocado la serie a punto de mate el pasado sábado, desaprovechó dos oportunidades previas para ponchar su boleto a la serie de campeonato hasta hoy cuando por fin lograron vencer a las subcampeonas Cangrejeras de Santurce con marcador de 74-71, en un partido celebrado en el Colegio Universitario de San Juan.
El quinteto superó a las Cangrejeras en los primeros dos enfrentamientos (79-74 y 76-65), pero luego sucumbió de forma consecutiva en los partidos tres y cuatro (66-63 y 89-84).
Las Explosivas se convirtieron en el primer equipo clasificado a la serie final. Ahora esperan por el ganador del duelo decisivo entre las campeonas Gigantes de Carolina y las Atenienses de Manatí, pautado para mañana sábado (8:00 p.m.) en el coliseo Juan A. Cruz Abreu.

Carolina regresará el sábado al coliseo Juan A. Cruz Abreu para disputar el choque de muerte súbita frente a Manatí, desde las 8:00 de la noche.
Kelsey Bone con un canasto en retirada despegó a las Atenienses de 16 puntos, 40-24, con 3:38 del segundo cuarto. Al cierre de la primera mitad, Manatí seguía en la delantera con pizarra de 42-33.
La cría de las campeonas salió a relucir en la segunda vuelta. Con nueve tantos de Sabrina Haines y ocho de Adrienne Godbold, las Gigantes remontaron y se llevaron el parcial con puntuación de 24-13, para irse arriba 57-55, luego de los primeros 30 minutos.
En el cuarto acto, Isalys Quiñonez con dos tiros libres niveló las hostilidades a 72, restando 1:29. Posteriormente, Haines atacó efectivamente hacía el canasto para otorgarle la ventaja definitiva a Carolina, 74-72, con 16 segundos por jugarse.

La misma se le estará dedicando a el ex baloncelista, José Antonio “Toñin” Casillas. Por cuarto año consecutivo el humacaeño, Orlando J. López Rivera será el apoderado uniendo fuerza con otros jóvenes empresarios de la ciudad Gris. También se informó que este año contarán con el experimentado y con más de 35 años de experiencia en el ambiente del baloncesto, Eduardo “Chelo” López como dirigente en propiedad. Completan su “Coaching Staff” Efraín Llanos, Ángel “Goldy” Zayas y el estadístico Emanuel Molina. In anticipation of the annual NBA on Christmas Day five game slate, the NBA today released its 2022 Christmas spot titled “A Nonstop NBA Christmas.” The new spot will premiere during the NBA Finals rematch between the Boston Celtics vs. Golden State Warriors game Saturday Dec. 10 at 8:30 p.m. ET for the opening night of the ABC primetime slate and is also set to stream on the NBA App and across @NBA social and digital platforms beginning today. Taking place on the set of a classic children’s holiday play, the ultimate NBA superfan Non-Stop, who was first introduced in the league’s tip-off campaign, makes his return to preview the exciting Christmas Day matchups this year. Las Cangrejeras de Santurce forzaron ese quinto y crucial encuentro con un triunfo hoy, miércoles, con un cerrado marcador de 89-84 sobre las Explosivas de Moca durante el cuarto enfrentamiento de la serie.
Moca necesitaba un triunfo para avanzar por primera ocasión en su historia a la serie de campeonato, pero por segundo choque consecutivo desaprovecharon la oportunidad, tras haberla colocado a punto de mate el pasado sábado.
Las Explosivas habían dominado la primera mitad, 42-37, en el coliseo Dr. Juan Sánchez Acevedo.
Santurce salió en el tercer cuarto decido a evitar la eliminación. Con 12 puntos de Stephanie Watts, las Cangrejeras se llevaron el periodo con puntuación de 29-24 para empatar las hostilidades a 66 tantos, luego de los primeros 30 minutos de acción.
Un bombazo de Brianna Jones le otorgó la ventaja definitiva a Santurce, 85-84, con 1:07 por jugarse del cuarto parcial. Tras un triple fallado de Jennifer O’Neill, Becca Tobin recibió falta personal y cobró con éxito los dos intentos desde el tiro libre para sellar la victoria de las visitantes.

| Las Atenienses de Manatí se colocaron el martes a un paso de la final al vencer 87-66 a las campeonas Gigantes de Carolina en el tercer juego de la serie semifinal A del Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF), celebrado en el coliseo Juan A. Cruz Abreu.
De esta forma, el conjunto manatieño tomó ventaja de la serie por 2-1, a solo una victoria de volver a la serie de campeonato tras un torneo de ausencia.
Manatí podría ponchar su boleto a la última fase el jueves durante el cuarto juego de la serie, que se celebrará en el coliseo Guillermo Angulo, de Carolina, a las 8:00 p.m.
En caso de que las Gigantes salgan por la puerta ancha el jueves, un quinto y decisivo encuentro sería el sábado en el coliseo Juan A. Cruz Abreu, desde las 8:00 de la noche.
Los primeros tres juegos de la serie han sido dominados por los quintetos locales.

Decididas a evitar la eliminación en su casa, las Cangrejeras con cuatro puntos al hilo de la importada Ariana Moorer realizaron un avance 6-0 para asumir el control del juego, 12-6, con 4:45 del primer cuarto. Santurce se llevó los primeros 10 minutos con pizarra de 19-13.
La primera mitad cerró 31-24, a favor de las Cangrejeras.
Con un tiro brincado de Brianna Jones, la ventaja de Santurce llegó a ser de 13, 35-24, con 8:23 del tercer parcial.

Morant was assessed a technical foul and ejected with 1:22 remaining in the fourth quarter of the Grizzlies’ 109-101 loss to the Minnesota Timberwolves on Nov. 30 at Target Center. | Luis Gabriel ‘Gaby’ Miranda Ramos fue reelegido hoy como director general del Baloncesto Superior Nacional Femenino (BSNF) en una reunión extraordinaria celebrada en Manatí.

DECEMBER 1, 2022MIES (Switzerland) - FIBA's Central Board has confirmed that Bahrain is to host the FIBA Mid-Term Congress in 2025, thanks to a partnership with the Bahrain Olympic Committee and the Bahrain Basketball Association. It will mark the third time a Mid-Term Congress has been held, with the first in 2017 in Hong Kong and the second delivered online in 2021. The entire basketball community will be reunited in Bahrain and will have the opportunity to meet with the hosting country's basketball and sports representatives. The Mid-Term Congress, to be held in late spring of 2025, will be a two-day event that will include breakout sessions for guests and attendees. The 212 National Federations that make up the Congress will also hear reports on FIBA's activities that have occurred since the FIBA Congress 2023, which is to be held in the Philippines to coincide with next year's FIBA Basketball World Cup 2023. MIES (Switzerland) - Nine individuals that made enormous contributions to women's basketball have been officially inducted into the FIBA Hall of Fame as members of the Class of 2022. The ceremony took place at the Patrick Baumann House of Basketball. Legendary players Lisa Leslie (USA), Robyn Maher (Australia), Catarina Pollini (Italy), Mame Maty Mbengue (Senegal), Jurgita Streimikyte-Virbickiene (Lithuania) and coaches Geno Auriemma (USA), Antonio Carlos Barbosa (Brazil), Milan "Ciga" Vasojevic (Serbia - posthumously) and Maria Planas (Spain) are in the Class of 2022. FIBA President Hamane Niang hailed the impact of each and celebrated their induction by saying: "We are very proud to welcome these great basketball personalities into the FIBA Hall of Fame. Women's basketball has benefited greatly from the contributions of these nine inductees, both on and off the court. My sincere congratulations go to them all for receiving this well-deserved honor." Maria Planas is a true pioneer of Spanish women's basketball and to this day remains the only female head coach in the long and rich history of her country's senior national teams. Catarina Pollini’s brilliant career r is highlighted by 252 appearances for the senior national team and multiple titles on the national and continental stages. In addition to numerous titles at clubs, Jurgita Streimikyte-Virbickiene contributed enormously to the Lithuanian title at the FIBA Women’s EuroBasket in 1997. Milan Vasojevic’s arrival as the head coach of the Yugoslavia national team in 1980 sparked a truly golden period, with his impact on the team huge from the outset. NBA NAMES SABRINA ELLIS AS NEW CHIEF PEOPLE OFFICER NEW YORK, Dec. 1, 2022 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) today named New York University (NYU) Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer Sabrina Ellis as the organization’s new Chief People Officer. Ellis will begin in this role on Jan. 17 and will report to NBA President, Administration Kyle Cavanaugh. As the NBA’s Chief People Officer, Ellis will oversee all aspects of the league’s global human resources strategy – including compensation and benefits, talent acquisition, and learning and leadership development – across its offices in 15 markets around the world. With a focus on global best practices and inclusion, she will also build, implement and drive engagement initiatives that address workforce culture and attract a globally diverse group of employees. Ellis joins the NBA from NYU, where she served as Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer since 2016. While at NYU, Ellis led core HR services across all business and academic functions for a global employee population of 26,000 in 13 countries spanning the United States, Europe, the Middle East, Africa and Asia, including degree-granting campuses in New York, Abu Dhabi and Shanghai. With a focus on inclusive leadership, Ellis collaborated across all NYU schools and units in the development and execution of numerous groundbreaking programs to recruit and retain a world-class workforce. These include the use of data and metrics to enable organizational improvements such as the redesign of the university’s benefit offerings, new contract provisions for NYU’s seven collective bargaining agreements, expansive leadership development offerings, recruitment strategies and extensive employee engagement initiatives. Under her leadership, NYU launched several firsts, including its Youth Program Compliance Office, Employee Engagement Unit and university-wide Onboarding Center. Ellis previously served as Vice President of Human Resources at George Washington University, where she led HR strategy and operations from 2012 to 2016.
