Los Denver Nuggets se coronan por primera vez campeón de la NBA

    Fueron 47 años de espera para celebrar un campeonato de la NBA en Denver, Colorado. Luego de fracasos que formaron el camino al campeoato, los Denver Nuggets le ganaron la serie 4-1 a los Miami Heat para lograr su primer campeonato en la historia. Nikola Jokic se llevo el premio Bill Russell para el MVP de la serie al promediar 30.2 puntos por juego y 14 rebotes por juego. Jokic se convierte en a penas el 6to jugador fuera de USA en ganar el MVP de las Finales. Otro que hizo historia fue Jamal Murray, quien luego de perder casi dos años por lesiones, promedio 21.4 puntos por juego y 10 asistencias por juegos en la Final 2023. Murray es apenas el 4to jugador en la historia de la NBA (Michael Jordan -1991, LeBron James 2017 y 2018, y Magic Johnson 1987 y 1988) en lograr esos promedios. Wow! 

    Denver literalmente escapó del 5to juego con una victoria 94-89 luego de lanzar 28-5 de la línea de tres puntos para un 18%, 23-13 del tiro libre para un 57%  y cometieron 14 turnovers a solo 8 de Miami. Miami ganó la 1era mitad 51-44. Los Heat ganaron el 1er parcial 24-22 al meter en faltas a Gordon y Jokic antes de que Adebayo explotará con 14 puntos. Strus aportó 8 de sus 12 puntos totales en el 1er parcial. Miami no lanzó mucho mejor que Denver de la línea de tres puntos al tirar de 35-9 para un 26% y perdieron los rebotes 57-44. Miami ganó el 2do parcial 27-22 con el despertar de Butler con sus primeros 8 puntos del juego en el parcial y con la dubla de Martin & Lowry aportando 6 puntos cada uno. Lowry terminó el jueg con 12 puntos, 9 rebotes, 4 asistencias y 2 robos de balón en 34 minutos. Caleb Martin terminó con 10 puntos desde el banco. Duncan Robinson metió sus únicos 5 puntos en el 2do parcial. Denver cometió 5 turnovers en el 1er parcial. Jokic solo anotó 9 puntos en la 1era mitad y Murray solo 4. Michael Porter Jr anotó 7 de sus 9 puntos de la mitad en el 1er parcial. 

    Denver apretó en el 3er parcial al ganarlo 26-20 y acercarse al marcador 71-70. Jokic anotó 9 puntos en el parcial atacando el canasto. Murray anotó 5 puntos y logró el empate 60-60 faltan poco más de 6 minutos. Porter Jr anotó 7 de sus 16 puntos en el 3er parcial. Porter Jr recuperó 13 rebotes en el juego. Miami contó con los únicos 6 puntos que anotó Gabe Vincent en el juego. Vincent y Strus literamente fueron apagadados en las Finales despúes de una excelente postemporada. Kevin Love soló anotó 3 puntos producto de un "clutch" bombazo en el 3er parcial. También dio dos tapones. Vincent se fue de 4-0 de la línea de 3 puntos. Christian Braun anotó dos de sus 7 puntos en el tercer parcial y se convirtió en el 5to jugador de la historia en la NBA (Bill Russell, Henry Bibby, Magic Johnson y Billy Thompson) en ganar campeonatos en años consecutivos tanto en NCAA (Kansas 2022) como en la NBA  (Denver Nuggets 2023). 

    Denver y Miami siguieron su toma y dame todo el cuarto parcial hasta que Jokic tomó el control del juego. Jokic anotó 10 de sus 28 puntos en el 4to parcial para darle la victoria y el campeonato en el 5to juego de la serie vía 94-89. Jokic recuperó 16 rebotes y repartió 4 asistencias. Kendavious Caldwell-Pope anotó 5 de sus 11 puntos en el 4to parcial, incluyendo dos "clutch" tiros libres faltando 24.7 segundos de juego. KCP cortó un pase de Butler para literalmente asegurar el campeonato. Murray anotó 5 de sus 14 puntos en el 4to parcial y terminó con 8 rebotes junto a 8 asistencias. Bruce Brown fue otro que ayudó a sepultar a Miami con 4 puntos "clutch" en minutos finales del partido. Brown terminó con 10 puntos y cierra su temporada con un anillo producto de nunca quitarse en perseguir su sueño. Brown no tenía trabajo hasta ser firmado a última hora por Denver. Ya vieron los resultados. Aaron Gordon y Jeff Green aportaron 4 puntos cada uno al triunfo. Jimmy Butler trató de hacer hasta lo imposible para mantener con vida a los Heat. Butler anotó 13 de sus 21 puntos en el 4to parcial, incuyendo dos bombazos seguidos. Butler también robó 3 balones. Pero aún asi no fue suficiente. Bam Adebayo desapareció en la 2da mitad con solo 2 puntos de sus 20. También recuperó 12 rebotes. Denver ganó el 4to parcial 24-18 y fue su defensa la que limitó a Miami a menos de 100 puntos. 

    Con Denver celebrando en el podio y con su ciudad termina la temporada NBA 2022-2023 y nos movemos al NBA Draft 2023. Un draft que será histórico e interesante. Con el Draft tenemos una temporada muerta que promete estar llena de campios interesantes y movidas que ayuden a los otros 29 equipos ponerse al nivel de los Denver Nuggets. NEW YORK, June 13, 2023 – The 2023 NBA Playoffs across ABC, ESPN and TNT averaged 5.47 million viewers, making it the most-watched playoffs in five years.  NBA games accounted for nine of the top 10 most-watched programs across all of television since the beginning of May and 15 of the top 20 most-watched programs among people under 50 since the start of April.

 

The 2023 NBA Finals, which saw the Denver Nuggets defeat the Miami Heat in a five-game series on ABC, averaged 11.64 million viewers, more than tripling its competition and winning the night across all of television for all five broadcasts.  The championship-clinching Game 5 averaged 13.08 million viewers, up 1% vs. last year’s Game 5, and peaked at 17.88 million viewers at 11 p.m. ET.

 

Across all @NBA social media platforms, the 2023 NBA Playoffs garnered eight billion views, making it the most-viewed playoffs ever.  @NBA on Twitter was the most-viewed brand on the platform during the 2023 NBA Finals.  Driven by users outside of the U.S., the NBA App also had a historic postseason, with unique viewers on NBA League Pass up 32% vs. last year.  2023 NBA Finals MVP Nikola Jokic’s popularity on social media skyrocketed throughout the Denver Nuggets’ title run with more than 540 million views, catapulting him from the No. 18 most-viewed player on social last season to No. 1 since May 1.

 

    2023 NBA FINALS: GAME 5 NOTES

The Denver Nuggets defeated the Miami Heat 94-89 on Monday in Game 5 of the 2023 NBA Finals presented by YouTube TV. The Nuggets won the series 4-1. Below are notes about Game 5 and Denver’s first NBA championship.

• Denver has won its first NBA championship, which completes its 47^th NBA season. It’s the most seasons played by an NBA franchise prior to winning its first NBA championship.  

• Before joining the NBA for the 1976-77 season, Denver played nine seasons in the American Basketball Association (ABA). The franchise made one ABA Finals appearance (1976) but did not win an ABA championship.

• Denver is the 20^th active franchise and 21^st franchise overall to win an NBA championship. (The now inactive Baltimore Bullets were champions in the 1947-48 season.) 

• Denver is the 11^th active franchise and 12^th franchise overall (when including the Baltimore Bullets) to win an NBA championship in its first NBA Finals appearance. The three most recent instances of a franchise winning an NBA championship in its first NBA Finals appearance are Denver (2023), Toronto (2019) and Miami (2006).

• The Nuggets are the third team in the last eight seasons to win their first NBA championship, joining Cleveland (2016) and Toronto (2019).

• With Denver’s NBA Finals victory, a different franchise has won the NBA championship for the fifth consecutive season. This is the first time with five different NBA champions in a five-year span since the 1976-77 – 1980-81 seasons.

• The Nuggets went 16-4 in the 2023 NBA Playoffs, tied for the second-best record by an NBA champion in a single postseason since 2003 (when the first round expanded to best-of-seven). San Antonio also went 16-4 in 2007. Golden State was 16-1 in 2017.  

• Nuggets center Nikola Jokić is the recipient of the Bill Russell Trophy as the 2023 NBA Finals Most Valuable Player. He received all 11 votes from a media panel at the NBA Finals.

• Jokić is the 11^th player to win at least two regular-season NBA MVPs and one NBA Finals MVP in a career, joining Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Giannis Antetokounmpo, Larry Bird, Wilt Chamberlain, Stephen Curry, Tim Duncan, LeBron James, Magic Johnson, Michael Jordan and Moses Malone.

• Jokić was the 41^st pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. He is the lowest-drafted player to win the NBA Finals MVP award with the exception of Moses Malone, who was not selected in the NBA Draft.

• Jokić averaged 30.2 points, 14.0 rebounds and 7.2 assists in the NBA Finals. He is the first player to average at least 30.0 points, 14.0 rebounds and 5.0 assists in an NBA Finals series.

• Jokić led all players in total points (600), rebounds (269) and assists (190) in the 2023 NBA Playoffs. He is the first player to lead the league in all three categories in a single postseason.

• Nuggets guard Jamal Murray averaged 21.4 points and 10.0 assists in the NBA Finals. He is the fourth player to average at least 20.0 points and 10.0 assists in an NBA Finals series, joining Magic Johnson (1987 and 1988), Michael Jordan (1991) and LeBron James (2017 and 2018). Murray and Jordan are the only players to do it in their first NBA Finals.

• Every player on the Nuggets’ roster has won his first NBA championship except guard Kentavious Caldwell-Pope, who is now a two-time champion. Caldwell-Pope was part of the Lakers’ 2019-20 championship team. 

• This is the first NBA championship for Denver head coach Michael Malone, who has 22 seasons of NBA coaching experience (including 10 as a head coach). His father, Brendan Malone, won two NBA championships as an assistant coach with Detroit (1989 and 1990).

• Nuggets forward Christian Braun has won an NBA championship one year after winning an NCAA championship. He is the fifth player to win NCAA and NBA championships in back-to-back years, joining Bill Russell, Henry Bibby, Magic Johnson and Billy Thompson. (Players had to have played in at least one playoff game for the NBA champion and played in the NCAA championship game for the winning team.)

• Miami center Bam Adebayo finished with 20 points and 12 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the series and fifth game with 20 or more points. He averaged 21.8 points and 12.4 rebounds in the series.

• ABC play-by-play commentator Mike Breen called his 100^th NBA Finals game on Monday. That is the most for a national NBA play-by-play voice.
