MIAMI (July 8, 2022) – Major League Baseball unveiled its roster for the 2022 All-Star Futures Game. This year’s list includes top Minor League prospects Diego Cartaya (Dodgers) and Miguel Vargas (Dodgers), who will make their debut in the big game, and Ezequiel Tovar (Rockies).
Diego Cartaya, the 20-year-old Venezuelan, made his U.S. debut at age 17 in 2019 and excelled as a 19-year-old in Low-A last summer, batting .298/.409/.614 in 31 games before a hamstring injury and back issues ended his season in mid-July. Cartaya is at No. 14 in the MLB Prospect Rankings.
Miguel Vargas, the 22-year-old Cuban, has a .316 average in three pro seasons and won the Double-A Central batting title last season at .321. Vargas is at No. 72 in the MLB Prospect Rankings.
Ezequiel Tovar, the 20-year-old Venezuelan, has a standout performance at Hartford Yards Goats with a .318/.386/.545 line in 66 games. Tovar is at No. 58 in the MLB Prospect Rankings.
The 2022 MLB All-Star Futures Game will take place on Saturday, July 16, 2022, at Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles. |
