    Una semana llena de cambios y momentos históricos fue los que nos regaló la NBA. Nombres como Durant, Westbrook, Mikal Bridges, Patrick Beverley, entre otros, fueron movidos de un equipo a otro en dos días de locura para terminar formalmente la fecha límites de hacer cambios en la NBA. Pero lo más importante de la semana fue cuando LeBron James a sus 38 años de edad y anotando 38 puntos, se convirtió en el máximo anotador de todos los tiempos al romper la marca de Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, establecida en Abril del 1984 y que duró por más de 39 años (38,387). LeBron con un "Step-Back" Jumper logró lleva su total de puntos a 38,388 para romper la marca en la temporada #20 de su carrera. El juego fue detenido, mientras que Adam Silver, Abdul Jabbar y LeBron fueron parte de ese momento histórico. Jabbar realizó un pase de batón a LeBron al entregarle un balón y fungirse en un abrazo. LeBron terminó la noche con 38,390 puntos y contando, rompiendo uno de las marcas más dificles en la historia del deporte, y sumando a su legado dentro del baloncesto. Con esta gesta las conversaciones de quién es el G.O.A.T o La Cabra (como le dijo Bad Bunny al oído) entre LeBron y Jordan vuelven a la mesa. Yo contestaré esa pregunta cuando LeBron se retire y podamos comparar ambas carreras terminadas. Y por el momento, eso tardará 4 o 5 años más por la forma que está jugando LeBron. Los lesionados Durant, Zion y Curry fueron reemplazados por Fox, Edwards y Siakam. Embiid, Morant y Lauri Markkanen inciarán el NBA All-Star Game por los lesionados Curry, Zion y Durant. 

    Estrellas, jugadores de rol, jóvenes con potencial y futuros picks fue el saldo de un cierre increíble de la fecha de cambios. 
  • Charlotte adquiere a Reggie Jackson y un 2nd round pick del 2028 desde los Clippers por Mason Plumlee. Jackson es dejado en libertad y tiene planes de firmar con Denver.
  • OKC cambia a Darius Bazley a los Suns por Dario Saric.
  • San Antonio consigue a Devonte' Graham y 4 2nd round picks de NOLA por Josh Richardson.
  • Houston consigue a Danny Green y John Wall, los Clippers a Eric Gordon y tres 2nd round picks, y Memphis se lleva a Luke Kennard. Green es dejado libre y firma con los Cavaliers.
  • Lakers consiguen a Mo Bamba de Orlando por Patrick Beverley.
  • Atlanta adquirió a Saddiq Bey, los Pistons a James Wiseman, Portland a Kevin Knox y 5 picks de 2da ronda, y los Warriors a Gary Payton II. Este cambio puede caerse al Payton no pasar el examén físico. 
  • Atlanta consiguió a Garrison Mathews y Bruno Fernando de Houston por Justin Holiday, Frank Kaminsky y 2 picks de 2da ronda.
  • Los Clippers consiguieron a Bones Hyland de Denver por 2nd round picks. 
  • Los Nets consiguen dos picks de 2da ronda, Milwaukee consigue a Jae Crowder, y los Pacers se llevan a George Hill, Serge Ibaka, Jordan Nwora y tres picks de 2da ronda.
  • Portland se lleva a Matisse Thybulle, los 76ers a Jalen McDaniels y 2 picks de 2da ronda, y Charlotte recibe draft considerations. 
  • Denver recibe a Thomas Bryant de los Lakers por Davon Reed y 3 picks de 2da ronda.
  • Boston recibe a Mike Muscala de OKC por Justin Jackson y dos picks de 2da ronda.

  • Los Kings cambiaron los derechos de David Michineau a los Nets por Kessler Edwards y cash.

Jokic realizó un triple double de 30 puntos, 16 rebotes y 10 asistencias en el triunfo 119-105 de Denver sobre Charlotte. Miami venció 107-103 a Orlando en tiempo extra gracias a 22 puntos de Butler y 23 de Herro. Beal anotó 32 para liderar el triunfo 127-113 de los Wizards sobre los Pacers. DAKAR, Senegal, February 13, 2023/ -- Season Opener Will Feature Senegal’s AS Douanes Taking on Côte d’Ivoire’s Abidjan Basket Club at the Dakar Arena on Saturday, March 11 at 4:00 p.m. GMT; 2022 BAL (https://BAL.NBA.com) Champion US Monastir of Tunisia Will Begin Title Defense on Sunday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. GMT; Kwara Falcons Will Represent Nigeria as West African Nation Returns to the BAL Alongside First-Time Participants Abidjan Basket Club (Côte d’Ivoire), Stade Malien (Mali), Al Ahly (Egypt) and City Oilers (Uganda); Fans Can Visit BAL.NBA.com to Register Their Interest in Tickets.

The Basketball Africa League (BAL) today announced the top 12 club teams from 12 African countries that will compete in the 2023 BAL season, which will tip off on Saturday, March 11 at the Dakar Arena in Dakar, Senegal, and will once again feature a total of 38 games in Dakar; Cairo, Egypt and Kigali, Rwanda over three months in 2023. Fans can register their interest in tickets at BAL.NBA.com.   

The 12 teams include defending BAL champion US Monastir (Tunisia) and five other teams returning from the 2022 season. Five teams will compete in the BAL for the first time, including the first BAL teams from Côte d’Ivoire and Uganda: Abidjan Basket Club (Côte d’Ivoire), Al Ahly (Egypt), City Oilers (Uganda), Kwara Falcons (Nigeria) and Stade Malien (Mali). AS Douanes (Senegal) returns to the BAL after participating in the inaugural season in 2021. 

The season opener will feature AS Douanes taking on Abidjan Basket Club on March 11 at 4:00 p.m. GMT. US Monastir will begin its title defense on Sunday, March 12 at 5:30 p.m. GMT against Stade Malien.

The 12 teams will once again be divided into two conferences – the Sahara Conference and the Nile Conference. Each conference will play a 15-game group phase during which each team will face the other five teams in its conference once. The Sahara Conference’s group phase will take place at the Dakar Arena from March 11-21, and the Nile Conference’s group phase will take place at Hassan Mostafa Indoor Sports Complex in Cairo from April 26 - May 6. The top four teams from each conference will qualify for the BAL Playoffs and Finals, which will feature a single-elimination tournament at BK Arena in Kigali from May 21-27.

“We are thrilled to rollout what promises to be another exceptional BAL season,” said FIBA Africa and BAL Board President Anibal Manave. “Judging from the quality of the teams that qualified through the Road to the BAL tournaments which ended in November last year, we are confident that fans and viewers will be treated to top-tier basketball that reflects the caliber of the talent we have on the continent.”

Champions from the national leagues in Angola, Egypt, Nigeria, Rwanda, Senegal, and Tunisia earned their participation in the 2023 BAL season by winning their respective national leagues. The remaining six teams, which come from Côte d’Ivoire, Guinea, Mali, Mozambique, South Africa, and Uganda, secured their participation through the Road to the BAL qualifying tournaments conducted by FIBA Africa across the continent from October to November 2022.

The 2023 BAL season will reach fans in more than 200 countries and territories on television, digital media, and social media. Rwanda Development Board, NIKE, Jordan Brand and Wilson will return as BAL Foundational Partners. The league’s roster of world-class marketing partners also includes Hennessy and Envol City.

On May 28, US Monastir defeated Petro de Luanda to win the 2022 BAL Finals in front of a sold-out crowd of 10,000 at BK Arena. The 2022 BAL season featured players from 23 countries across Africa, Europe, and the U.S, reached fans in 214 countries and territories in 14 languages - including all 54 African countries - and generated more than 600 million online engagements.

WASHINGTON’S BRADLEY BEAL FINED

 

NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2023 – Washington Wizards guard Bradley Beal has been fined $25,000 for making contact with a game official, it was announced today by Joe Dumars, Executive Vice President, Head of Basketball Operations.

 

The incident occurred with 8:26 remaining in the third quarter of Washington’s 127-113 victory over the Indiana Pacers on Feb. 11 at Capital One Arena.

NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2023 – AT&T will be the presenting partner of the NBA HBCU Classic for the second year the NBA today announced.  Together the NBA and AT&T will donate $100,000 to Classic opponents Grambling State University and Southern University for a total of $200,000 to support academic resources, athletics and wellness services as part of their respective ongoing commitments to students, faculty and alumni of historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs).  Google and Adidas will serve as associate partners of the game.  Throughout NBA All-Star 2023, the NBA will continue its ongoing commitment to HBCUs with more than $1 million contributed to organizations that provide scholarships, economic empowerment and career development opportunities to HBCU students and institutions.

Coverage of the Bayou rivalry will begin at 4:00 p.m. ET on TNT, ESPN2, NBA TV with play-by-play from Stephanie Ready (Coppin State University alumna) alongside analysts Grant Hill and Monica McNutt, sideline reporter Taylor Rooks and special contributor Siera Jones.  Jones is a recent graduate of Norfolk State University and will contribute to the broadcast as part of Warner Bros. Discovery Sports’ Oscar Pope Lift Every Voice Fellowship.  SiriusXM NBA Radio will also carry an original broadcast of the game featuring play-by-play announcer Paul Jones, analyst and NBA Legend Eddie Johnson and Amin Elhassan from the sideline.

Prior to tipoff, the Bonner Family, will sing the U.S. national anthem and the Black national anthem, “Lift Every Voice.”

Also new in 2023 will be a pep rally hosted at Google’s Pixel Playground on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5:30 p.m. MT.  Both the Southern University Human Jukebox and the World Famed Grambling State University Tiger Marching Band will perform to get fans excited for the Classic.  The NBA and Google will host a pregame fan fest ahead of the game on Saturday from 11-1 p.m. MT, also at Pixel Playground.  Pixel Playground is Google’s immersive experience bringing streetball culture to NBA All-Star 2023, centered by a pick-up basketball court and fan-focused pop-up activations open to the public starting at 12 p.m. MT, Friday through Sunday at Sky SLC.

New this year, the NBA, Grambling State and Southern partnered with Pensole Lewis College of Business and Design, an HBCU with the mission to provide pathways to break into the product design and creation industry, to add official NCAA basketball court markings on the NBA All-Star court in the University of Utah’s Jon M. Huntsman Center with art that reflects each school and Salt Lake City.  Designers from Pensole Lewis also worked with apparel partners to create new HBCU Classic warm-up shirts for the student-athletes to wear on gameday. 

As part of the NBA’s All-Star HBCU impact, the NBA Foundation will donate $500,000 to the Thurgood Marshall College Fund, the United Negro College Fund, Braven and The University of Utah’s HBCU Impact and Black Cultural Center Program. Funding will help expand programming and critical resources for HBCU students and alumni as part of the Foundation’s mission to drive economic opportunity for Black youth.

As part of Grambling State Tigers and Southern Jaguars participation in NBA All-Star 2023, both teams will have the opportunity to engage with NBA league and team executives as well as current and former NBA players and take part in the NBA Cares All-Star Day of Service.  Also taking place during the week of NBA All-Star will be additional opportunities for HBCU students focused on professional development and exposure including a career-focused session presented by AT&T.

HBCU Event Intern Program: NBA All-Star

The NBA will host 13 current HBCU students from 10 different schools for the second time at NBA All-Star to serve as interns throughout the week.  Participating students will have the opportunity to see behind the scenes of NBA All-Star 2023 and serve in a variety of roles across NBA league office departments.  The selected interns are current students at Clark Atlanta University, Spelman College, Xavier University of Louisiana, Winston Salem State University, Howard University, Hampton University, Morehouse University, Southern University A&M, North Carolina A&T State University, Morgan State University.

 

NBA All-Star HBCU Student Art Showcase

The NBA commissioned eight HBCU student artists to create original art compositions centered around the cross section of their HBCU experience and sports.  Selected artists will have their personal profile and artwork included on event collateral, promotional materials, and various social/digital assets and art will be displayed in NBA All-Star event venues throughout the weekend including at Vivint Arena, the Huntsman Center, NBA House and more. 

 

AT&T Rising Future Makers

AT&T is committed to providing its AT&T Rising Future Makers with connections and opportunities to reach their dreams and ambitions.  As part of the Classic, AT&T will host its 2022 Rising Future Makers Sárah “Lee” Buckner from Hampton University, Rachel Motley from Howard University and Jaivien Kendrick from Bowie State University during the game.

The Grambling State Tigers and Southern Jaguars faced off earlier this year on Jan. 14 at Grambling where the Jaguars defeated the Tigers 81-73. Currently in the Southwestern Athletic Conference, their records are 7-3 and 8-2, respectively.  Since 1986 against each other, Southern has 46 wins over Grambling State’s 28.  Tickets for the NBA HBCU Classic 2023 are currently available at NBAEvents.com and through the NBA Events App, which can be downloaded in the Apple Store or Google Play Store

NEW YORK, Feb. 13, 2023 – The National Basketball Association (NBA) today announced the launch of “NBA Films for Fans,” a global initiative that will engage filmmakers from 11 countries to develop 24 short documentary films celebrating the NBA and basketball from each of their respective cultural perspectives.  Seven of the participating filmmakers from Australia, Brazil, Canada, India, Senegal, UK and the U.S. will debut their films at an exclusive red-carpet event on Friday, Feb. 17 at Soundwell in Salt Lake City, Utah as part of NBA All-Star 2023.

 

Following the premiere event, the seven films will be screened throughout the weekend at NBA Crossover, an immersive fan experience taking place at Salt Palace Convention Center from Feb. 17-19, before all 24 films will be made available within the new global NBA App later this season. 

   

The films, officially commissioned by the NBA, will provide fans with a deeper outlook into the milestones and moments that shape the league’s global influence from the perspective of these creators with diverse backgrounds.  The filmmakers were given unlimited access to the NBA’s video archives and the films will receive promotional support from the league throughout the remainder of the 2022-23 season.

 

“We are excited to work with this global group of filmmakers and bring their unique basketball stories to fans around the world through the new NBA App,” said NBA Senior Vice President, Head of Social, Digital & Original Content Andrew Yaffe.  “Films for Fans will showcase the power of basketball to create connections among people of different cultures and backgrounds through their shared love of the game and the excitement of the NBA.”

 

As part of the initiative and in celebration of Salt Lake City’s rich history as a filmmaking hub, the Utah Jazz produced a short film about the intersection of basketball and the local community that will be among the seven films to debut at the premiere event.
