OFFENSE: QB GENO SMITH, SEATTLE SEAHAWKS - Smith completed 102 of 147 pass attempts (69.4 percent) for 1,207 yards with nine touchdown passes for a 111.7 rating in five games during the month of October, leading the Seahawks to a 4-1 record. He had the highest passer rating of any NFC quarterback during the month.
- Smith also recorded 143 rushing yards and a rushing touchdown in October. His 10 total touchdowns led all NFC quarterbacks from Weeks 4-8 and he leads the league in completion percentage (72.7 percent) through the first eight weeks of the season.
- This is the first Offensive Player of the Month award for Smith. He is the fifth Seahawks quarterback to ever earn the honor.

DEFENSE: LB ZA’DARIUS SMITH, MINNESOTA VIKINGS - Smith led all players with 6.5 sacks and led all NFC players with eight tackles for loss as part of a Vikings team that went 4-0 in the month of October.
- Smith leads the NFL in tackles for loss with 13 and ranks tied for first with 8.5 sacks through the first eight weeks of the season.
- This is the first Defensive Player of the Month award for Smith and he is the second Vikings linebacker to earn the honor, joining Jack Del Rio (September, 1994).
- Smith becomes the first former Kentucky linebacker and second former Wildcat overall to win a Defensive Player of the Month award, joining defensive end Art Still (December, 1986).

| The Starting 11 -- Return of the Run as Season Hits Midway Point | As the calendar turns to November, close games and turnaround teams have highlighted the first two months of the 2022 season. Hill, who has at least 150 receiving yards in four games this season, can surpass Bruce (1,073 receiving yards in 1995) for the most receiving yards by a player in his team's first nine games of a season in the Super Bowl era. Hill and Waddle can also become the sixth pair of teammates each with at least 800 receiving yards through their team's first nine games all-time. 5. SPOTLIGHT – TEAM MATCHUP: The TENNESSEE TITANS (5-2) visit the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (5-2) on Sunday Night Football (8:20 PM ET, NBC) in a meeting between teams atop their respective divisions.
The Titans enter Week 9 on a five-game winning streak, the longest active winning streak in the AFC, after beginning the season 0-2. Last week, running back DERRICK HENRY recorded his sixth career game with at least 200 rushing yards, tied with ADRIAN PETERSON (six) and Pro Football Hall of Famer O.J. SIMPSON (six) for the most such games in NFL history. Including the postseason, he has 557 rushing yards (111.4 per game) and six rushing touchdowns in five career games against Kansas City.
The Chiefs are coming off a Week 8 bye having won three of their past four games with all four coming against 2021 playoff teams. Head coach ANDY REID has a 20-3 career record following his team's bye week and Kansas City has won nine consecutive games in November dating back to Week 11 of the 2019 season. Quarterback PATRICK MAHOMES leads the NFL with 20 touchdown passes this season and ranks second in passing yards per game (308.4) and passer rating (109.5). 6. STREAK SPEAK: Philadelphia quarterback JALEN HURTS, who turned 24 years old in August, has won each of his past 10 games as a starting quarterback, including his final three starts of the 2021 season and is the seventh-youngest quarterback in the Super Bowl era to win 10 consecutive starts.
With a win on Thursday Night Football (8:15 PM ET, Prime Video) at Houston, he can tie Pro Football Hall of Famers PEYTON MANNING (11 consecutive wins in 1999) and DAK PRESCOTT (11 in 2016) for the third-longest winning streak by a starting quarterback under the age of 25 since 1990, trailing only BEN ROETHLISBERGER (15 consecutive wins from 2004-05) and LAMAR JACKSON (13 consecutive wins from 2019-20).
Hurts can also become the third quarterback under the age of 25 to start and win each of his team's first eight games of a season since 1950, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer DAN MARINO (1984 with Miami) and JARED GOFF (2018 with the Los Angeles Rams). 7. DID YOU KNOW?: Through seven games this season, Buffalo quarterback JOSH ALLEN has totaled 2,198 passing yards and 306 rushing yards and leads all players with 357.7 combined passing and rushing yards per game. His 2,504 combined passing and rushing yards in 2022 trail only Pro Football Hall of Famer PEYTON MANNING (2,542 combined yards in 2013) and DREW BREES (2,512 in 2011) for the most such combined yards by a quarterback in his first seven games of a season. The BUFFALO BILLS (6-1) travel to MetLife Stadium on Sunday (1:00 PM ET, CBS) to meet the NEW YORK JETS (5-3).
8. UNDER-THE-RADAR STORYLINE: There are three head coaches in their first season with a team – Miami's MIKE MCDANIEL, Minnesota's KEVIN O'CONNELL and the New York Giants' BRIAN DABOLL – and four second-year head coaches – Atlanta's ARTHUR SMITH, the Los Angeles Chargers' BRANDON STALEY, the New York Jets' ROBERT SALEH and Philadelphia's NICK SIRIANNI – that currently have their club in playoff position.
There have only been two seasons in which three first-year head coaches qualified for the postseason in the same year – 2008 (JOHN HARBAUGH, MIKE SMITH and TONY SPARANO) and 1992 (Pro Football Hall of Famer BILL COWHER, DANNY GREEN and BOBBY ROSS) – while the most first- and second-year head coaches to make the playoffs in the same season is five, set in 2008 (MIKE TOMLIN and KEN WHISENHUNT in their second seasons).
O'Connell, whose Vikings visit the Washington Commanders on Sunday (1:00 PM ET, FOX), can become the fifth head coach since 2000 to win seven of his first eight games, joining JIM CALDWELL (2009), JIM HARBAUGH (2011), MATT LAFLEUR (2019) and MIKE MARTZ (2000). 9. TREND TIME: There have been 55 games this season with a lead change in the third quarter or later, including at least four games in each of the first eight weeks. There have been 37 games in which a team came back to win or tie after trailing in the fourth quarter in 2022, tied with 2021 (37) and 1989 (37) for the third-most such games through Week 8 in NFL history, trailing only 2016 (38) and 2012 (38). 10. THIS WEEK IN NFL HISTORY: The INDIANAPOLIS COLTS (3-4-1) visit the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS (4-4) on Sunday (1:00 PM ET, CBS). The two clubs met in Week 9 in four consecutive seasons from 2005-08, with the Colts earning three primetime victories and the Patriots lone win coming during their undefeated 2007 regular-season. In Week 9 of the 2005 season on Monday Night Football, the Pro Football Hall of Fame trio of PEYTON MANNING (321 yards and three touchdown passes), EDGERRIN JAMES (104 rushing yards and a touchdown) and MARVIN HARRISON (nine receptions for 128 yards and two touchdowns) as well as REGGIE WAYNE (nine receptions for 124 yards and one touchdown) each delivered standout performances. 11. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST: The BALTIMORE RAVENS have had a lead of at least 10 points in each of their first eight games of the season. On Monday Night Football in New Orleans (8:15 PM ET, ESPN), they can become the fifth team in the Super Bowl era to hold a 10-point lead in each of their first nine games of the season, joining the 2011 GREEN BAY PACKERS, 2009 NEW ORLEANS SAINTS, 1989 NEW YORK GIANTS and 1984 MIAMI DOLPHINS. PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (7-0) AT HOUSTON TEXANS (1-5-1) Week 9 of the 2022 NFL season gets underway on Thursday, November 3 (8:15 PM ET, Prime Video) as the Philadelphia Eagles (7-0) visit the Houston Texans (1-5-1). Philadelphia has won all five previous meetings between the two clubs. The Eagles look to begin a season 8-0 for the first time in franchise history and have a league-low two giveaways this year, becoming the second team in the Super Bowl era with two-or-fewer giveaways through their first seven games of a season, joining the 2017 Kansas City Chiefs (one giveaway).
Philadelphia quarterback JALEN HURTS has won 10 consecutive starts, including his final three starts of the 2021 season, the longest such streak by a quarterback in Eagles franchise history. Last week, he set career highs in touchdown passes (four) and passer rating (140.6) in the team’s 35-13 win over Pittsburgh. Entering Week 9, Hurts leads all NFC quarterbacks in combined passing and rushing yards per game (300.3) and is one of three NFC quarterbacks (JIMMY GAROPPOLO and GENO SMITH) with a passer rating of 100-or-higher (105.1). The Eagles lead the NFL with 14 rushing touchdowns this season, including six from Hurts and five from running back MILES SANDERS. They are the only pair of teammates each with at least five rushing touchdowns this season. Sanders has four rushing touchdowns in his past four and aims for his third in a row overall with a rushing touchdown. Wide receiver A.J. BROWN registered six receptions for 156 yards and three touchdowns last week. Each of his three touchdown receptions came in the first half and at 39, 27 and 29 yards, he became the first player since DREW BENNETT (December 5, 2004) with three touchdown receptions of 25-or-more yards in the first half of a game. Since 2019, Brown has six games with at least 150 receiving yards, tied with JUSTIN JEFFERSON for the second-most in the NFL. Brown (39 receptions for 659 yards this season), wide receiver DEVONTA SMITH (38 receptions for 420 yards) and tight end DALLAS GOEDERT (32 receptions for 421 yards) are the only trio of teammates in 2022 each with at least 30 receptions and 400 receiving yards. Philadelphia enters Week 9 ranked second in the NFC in scoring defense (16.9 points per game allowed) and total defense (298.1 yards per game allowed). Linebacker HAASON REDDICK has recorded 5.5 sacks in his past five and had 1.5 sacks in his last game against the Texans (September 23, 2021, with Carolina on Thursday Night Football). Safety C.J. GARDNER-JOHNSON recorded his career-high fourth interception of the season last week as the Eagles rank tied for second in the league with 10 interceptions as a team this season. Cornerback JAMES BRADBERRY has recorded at least one pass defensed in each of the team’s first seven games this season and is the only player in the NFL with at least 10 passes defensed in each of the past seven seasons. Bradberry and cornerback DARIUS SLAY are tied for first in passed defensed since 2016 (92 each). Houston quarterback DAVIS MILLS is slated to make his 10th career home start. In his first nine home starts, he has recorded 17 touchdown passes against four interceptions for a 104.7 rating. Since 2021, he is one of three AFC quarterbacks (JOE BURROW and TUA TAGOVAILOA) with a home passer rating of 100-or-higher (minimum five starts). Rookie running back DAMEON PIERCE registered his first career touchdown reception last week and has a touchdown in four of his past five games. He leads all rookies with four games with 100-or-more scrimmage yards and aims for his seventh in a row with at least 50 scrimmage yards. Wide receiver BRANDIN COOKS has at least four receptions in six of his first seven games this season. He aims for his third in a row against Philadelphia with at least 50 receiving yards and third in a row on Thursday with at least 85 receiving yards. Defensive lineman JERRY HUGHES leads the Texans with five sacks this season, his sixth-career season with at least five sacks. Linebacker CHRISTIAN KIRKSEY has at least five tackles in each of his first seven games in 2022 and aims for his third in a row on Thursday Night Football with at least 10 tackles. Rookie defensive back JALEN PITRE has at least five tackles in six of his first seven career games and aims for his third in a row at home with a tackle for loss. Defensive back JONATHAN OWENS leads all defensive backs with four games with at least 10 tackles this season. McCaffrey is the fourth player with a touchdown pass, rushing touchdown and touchdown reception in a single game since 1970, joining Pro Football Hall of Famers WALTER PAYTON (October 21, 1979) and LADAINIAN TOMLINSON (October 16, 2005) as well as DAVID PATTEN (October 21, 2001).

Hill recorded his ninth career game with at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards, tied with Pro Football Hall of Famer TIM BROWN (nine) for the fifth-most such games in NFL history. Only ANTONIO BROWN (10 games), ANDRE JOHNSON (10), JULIO JONES (10) and Pro Football Hall of Famer JERRY RICE (10) have more.
Hill has four games with at least 10 receptions and 150 receiving yards this season (Weeks 2, 4, 6 and 8), tied with Pro Football Hall of Famers TIM BROWN (1997), CALVIN JOHNSON (2012) and JERRY RICE (1995) as well as ANTONIO BROWN (2017) for the most such games in a single season in NFL history.
Hill joins ROY GREEN (1984) as the only players ever with at least 150 receiving yards in four of his team's first eight games of a season in NFL history.
- Four players each recorded three scrimmage touchdowns on Sunday: Philadelphia's A.J. BROWN (three touchdown receptions), Carolina's D'ONTA FOREMAN (three rushing touchdowns), New Orleans' ALVIN KAMARA (two touchdown receptions, one rushing touchdown) and Dallas' TONY POLLARD (three rushing touchdowns).
It marks the fifth time since 2000 that at least four players recorded three-or-more scrimmage touchdowns in the same week, joining Week 1 of the 2004 season (six players), Week 3 of the 2015 season (five), Week 9 of the 2013 season (five) and Week 12 of the 2004 season (five).
- Minnesota quarterback KIRK COUSINS completed 24 of 36 pass attempts (66.7 percent) and had three touchdowns (two passing, one rushing) in the Vikings' 34-26 win over Arizona.
Cousins has 3,000 completions in 132 career games and he tied DEREK CARR (132 games) as the third-fastest player in NFL history to reach 3,000 career completions. Only MATTHEW STAFFORD (125 games) and MATT RYAN (130) reached the mark in fewer games.
Arizona wide receiver DEANDRE HOPKINS had 12 receptions for 159 yards and one touchdown on Sunday.
Hopkins has 811 receptions in 138 career games, the fifth-fewest games in NFL history to reach 800 career receptions. Only ANTONIO BROWN (126 games), JULIO JONES (127), Pro Football Hall of Famer MARVIN HARRISON (131) and ANDRE JOHNSON (137) reached the mark faster.

- Los Angeles Rams wide receiver COOPER KUPP recorded eight receptions for 79 yards and one touchdown on Sunday.
Kupp has 64 receptions this season and surpassed KEENAN ALLEN (62 receptions in 2015) and MICHAEL THOMAS (62 in 2019) for the second-most receptions by a player in his team's first seven games of a season in NFL history. Only ADAM THIELEN (67 receptions in 2018) had more.
- Denver running back LATAVIUS MURRAY recorded the game-winning rushing touchdown with 1:43 remaining in the Broncos' 21-17 win over the Jacksonville Jaguars at Wembley Stadium in London.
Murray, who also rushed for a touchdown with the New Orleans Saints at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in Week 4, is the third player to appear in two games in London in the same season, joining GAREON CONLEY (2019) and ADRIAN PETERSON (2017), and the first player to rush for a touchdown for two different teams in London in the same season.
- Detroit running back JAMAAL WILLIAMS rushed for two touchdowns on Sunday.
Williams, who also rushed for two touchdowns in Weeks 1, 3 and 4, is the fourth player since 2000 with at least two rushing touchdowns in four of his team's first seven games of a season, joining JAMES CONNER (2018), TODD GURLEY (2018) and PRIEST HOLMES (2004).
