League extends commitment to both groups focusing on prevention and support for survivors The National Football League (NFL) joined the National Domestic Violence Hotline (The Hotline) and RALIANCE in announcing their continued partnerships today. April is Sexual Assault Awareness Month and highlighting the work of the NFL's national and local partnerships that provide year-round resources to educate communities and support survivors is part of the League's broad commitment that includes more than $50 million in donations since 2014. For more than eight years, the NFL has provided financial support to The Hotline in its mission to shift power back to those in the U.S. affected by relationship abuse. The Hotline remains the only national, 24-hour, year-round resource for survivors offering services via call, chat and text. Through funding from the NFL, The Hotline was able to answer over 400,000 calls, texts and chats in 2021 alone—more answered than in any other year since the organization's inception in 1996. Additionally, support from the NFL has helped The Hotline connect survivors with over 200,000 referrals to shelters and domestic violence service providers and over 190,000 referrals to additional resources across the nation this past year. The NFL and The Hotline have renewed their partnership another three years through a grant from the NFL, which will empower The Hotline to continue their direct services and grow their capacity to meet the increased contact volume, further its policy work to advocate for expanded resources for survivors and establish the National Survivor Data Institute with an emphasis on research on the experiences of survivors, especially those from marginalized communities. "We are extremely grateful for the National Football League's renewed commitment and support to ensure all those impacted by domestic violence have access to The Hotline's 24/7 services—said Katie Ray-Jones, CEO of the National Domestic Violence Hotline. This is coming at a time when survivors are needing services more than ever. We are experiencing the highest contact volume in our history. Together we must do more to advocate for expanded resources for survivors and ensure access to services. The road ahead for true systemic change is a long one and it will take all of us committed to ensure that relationships are healthy and free from violence. We are encouraged whenever an industry leader, such as the NFL, steps forward to stand with and support survivors". With the NFL's support, RALIANCE was created in 2016 to unify the national sexual violence field to better support victims and survivors. In addition to supporting their general operations, communications and advocacy work, together the NFL and RALIANCE have awarded nearly $3 million in grants to prevention programs and projects that support survivors and make communities safer. Using an intersectional approach to prevention, the majority of the 68 projects funded to date were awarded to programs serving people of color, LGBTQ+ communities, people with disabilities, religious minorities, immigrants, young people, and others who often are heavily impacted by sexual violence yet historically overlooked by funders. This month, the NFL has renewed a three-year grant partnership with RALIANCE to expand their work with grantees by offering more resources, prioritize grant funding to organizations at the intersection of sexual misconduct prevention and social justice, and with other organizations to provide them the right tools to create a safe environment when it comes to sexual harassment and abuse. "We are proud to partner with the NFL in the years ahead as we work to change cultures to prevent and end sexual violence, misconduct, and abuse," said Sandra Henriquez, founding member and Managing Partner of RALIANCE. "Through this generous grant, we will be able to advance our mission to help organizations across sectors create inclusive and safer environments for all. We look forward to the work ahead." From character-building initiatives, youth football events, mentorship opportunities and community greening projects, the NFL aims to leave a lasting, positive legacy in Las Vegas and throughout the state of Nevada. Throughout Draft week, the collective NFL family will participate in events designed to give back to the Las Vegas community. NFL and NCAA Partner to Provide Youth Football Student-Athletes with Educational Resources | The National Football League and the National Collegiate Athletic Association announced today a partnership to help middle and high school students better understand the pathways to play college football. As part of the NFL’s Play Football initiative, the NCAA Eligibility Center will work collaboratively to educate students on the benefits, process, and health and safety requirements to reach the playing field at the Division I or Division II levels. As part of the NFL’s community engagement programs sponsored by each of the league’s 32 clubs, this collaborative effort, titled “Get in the Game!”, will provide information and experience to students interested in participating in all levels of football, from little league football to the NFL. Through various community events, the NCAA Eligibility Center will work with the NFL to provide online, onsite and interactive resources on the importance of education and good study habits. The information will be available to students as they progress through their middle and high school years and ensure they have the opportunity to explore and discover the fun and benefits of playing football. This collaboration between the NCAA, the NFL’s Play Football initiative and all 32 clubs can benefit over three million middle and high school students in the United States who participate annually in tackle and flag football. “We are excited to collaborate with the NCAA to provide the best educational resources to our youth and high school student-athletes,” said Roman Oben, NFL Vice President of Football Development. “This collaboration ensures players at all levels are well equipped with the information that they need to succeed on and off the field. We want to see student-athletes achieve their goals.” Each year, the NCAA Eligibility Center reaches nearly eight million high school student-athletes. Of those, over 25,000 high-school students are certified by the Eligibility Center to play football at Division I or II levels. “Our partnership with the NFL’s Play Football initiative and the NFL teams’ community engagement programs is a win all around. Through collaboration at these events, we will reach students interested in playing at the collegiate level even sooner, emphasizing the importance of their performance in the classroom as well as on the field,” said Mike Massa, Managing Director of External Affairs for the NCAA Eligibility Center. “Because academic performance starting in ninth-grade counts toward NCAA academic certification, ensuring that students and their families understand NCAA academic requirements is key to making informed decisions as they pursue the dream of a college degree while playing NCAA football.” For more information, please visit ncaa.org/getinthegame.

As per Article 21 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement, each club’s official, voluntary nine-week offseason program is conducted in three phases:
Phase One consists of the first two weeks of the program with activities limited to meetings, strength and conditioning, and physical rehabilitation only.
Phase Two consists of the next three weeks of the program. On-field workouts may include individual or group instruction and drills, as well as “perfect play drills,” and drills and plays with offensive players lining up across from offensive players and defensive players lining up across from defensive players, conducted at a walk through pace. No live contact or team offense vs. team defense drills are permitted.
Phase Three consists of the next four weeks of the program. Teams may conduct a total of 10 days of organized team practice activity, or “OTAs”. No live contact is permitted, but 7-on-7, 9-on-7, and 11-on-11 drills are permitted.
Article 22 of the Collective Bargaining Agreement stipulates that clubs may hold one mandatory minicamp for veteran players. This minicamp, noted below, must occur during Phase Three of the offseason program.
New head coaches are entitled to conduct an additional voluntary veteran minicamp. Any voluntary minicamp for veteran players must be conducted prior to the NFL Draft (April 28-30), but no earlier than week three of the club’s offseason workout program and after at least one week of the two weeks of Phase One activities that the clubs may hold pursuant to Article 21. This year, eight clubs will hold voluntary veteran minicamps, as noted below.
Each club may hold a rookie football development program for a period of seven weeks, which in 2022 may begin on May 16. During this period, no activities may be held on weekends, with the exception of one post-Draft rookie minicamp, which may be conducted on either the first or second weekend following the draft. The dates of each club’s post-draft rookie minicamps will be circulated at a later date.

HBO Sports, NFL Films and the Detroit Lions Join Forces for Hard Knocks Training Camp with the Detroit Lions | HBO SPORTS®, NFL FILMS AND THE LIONS JOIN FORCES FOR HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE DETROIT LIONS, A NEW SEASON OF THE GROUNDBREAKING SPORTS REALITY SERIES, DEBUTING AUGUST 9 HBO Sports and NFL Films are partnering with the Detroit Lions for an unfiltered all-access look at what it takes to make it in the National Football League with HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE DETROIT LIONS. The five-episode season debuts TUESDAY, AUGUST 9 (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET) with additional hour-long episodes debuting subsequent Tuesdays at the same time, culminating in the September 6 season finale. The first sports-based reality series, and one of the fastest-turnaround programs on TV, will debut on HBO and be available to stream on HBO Max.
HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE DETROIT LIONS will mark the 17th edition of the 18-time Sports Emmy®-winning series and the most acclaimed serialized sports series on television. HBO has aired 82 memorable episodes and one anniversary special in its first 16 seasons.
"We are excited about the opportunity to showcase the City of Detroit and the amazing culture we are building at the Lions," said Detroit Lions Team President and CEO, Rod Wood. "HBO Sports and NFL Films are the best of the best and we know they will be excellent partners in sharing our story with football fans around the world."
Camera crews will head to the Lions' training camp in Allen Park, Michigan in the next few months to begin filming, with the action heating up in August when the cinema verité show focuses on the daily lives and routines of players and coaches. HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE DETROIT LIONS will chronicle head coach Dan Campbell entering his second season leading the team and an intriguing mix of young emerging stars, established veterans, free agent additions and highly regarded rookie hopefuls throughout training camp and the preseason. HARD KNOCKS: TRAINING CAMP WITH THE DETROIT LIONS will be narrated by Liev Schreiber, marking his 16th season with the show.
"As Hard Knocks enters its third decade inside NFL training camps, we are both thrilled and thankful for the opportunity to feature a historic franchise like the Lions," said NFL Films Vice President and Senior Coordinating Producer, Ken Rodgers. "The city, the culture and the coaching staff in Detroit all have an exciting energy that will make the show must-watch television this summer."
A 30-person NFL Films crew will be at Lions' training camp in Allen Park, shooting more than 1,750 hours of footage over the course of the series. Camera and sound crews will have unencumbered access to players' and coaches' meeting rooms, training rooms, living quarters and practice fields.
Winner of 18 Sports Emmy® Awards to date, HARD KNOCKS launched with the Baltimore Ravens in 2001, followed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2002, and resumed in 2007 with the Kansas City Chiefs, subsequently spotlighting the Cowboys (2008), Cincinnati Bengals (2009), New York Jets (2010), Miami Dolphins (2012), Bengals (2013), Atlanta Falcons (2014), Houston Texans (2015) and Los Angeles Rams (2016). The 2017 edition chronicled the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and captured the Sports Emmy® for Outstanding Serialized Documentary. The widely acclaimed 2018 series with the Cleveland Browns earned two Sports Emmy® Awards for production excellence. The 2019 series spotlighted the Oakland Raiders as they played their final season in the Bay area before moving the franchise to Las Vegas. In an unprecedented programming move, the 2020 edition of the venerable series spotlighted both Los Angeles NFL teams: The Los Angeles Chargers and the Los Angeles Rams. Last year featured "America's Team", the Dallas Cowboys, marking their third appearance on the series.
Eleven of the last thirteen teams featured on HARD KNOCKS have equaled or improved their win-loss record in the regular season. The Cleveland Browns launched the transformation of their organization on HBO and went from a winless 2017 season to coming within half a game (7-8-1) of a .500 campaign. The 2019 season saw the Raiders improve their record to 7-9 from the previous year's 4-12 mark. Both Los Angeles' teams, Rams and Chargers, improved their records in 2020 with two more wins from the previous year; with the Rams making the playoffs. Last year the Cowboys won their division going 12-5 from the previous year's 6-10 mark.
The Washington Post wrote, "Turning football players into people is what HBO's HARD KNOCKS series does so well. The massive scope, meticulous editing and time-hopping special effects that highlight a production under massive time constraints are all impressive, but it's the film crew's access to NFL players that makes the program special." NFL.com stated, "There are myriad reasons why HARD KNOCKS remains one of the best shows on television; it's ability to show us the human side of cutdown weekend is near the top," while USA Today wrote, "Players' lives and their hopes and dreams play out each NFL preseason on HARD KNOCKS. It's that month-long human drama that makes the show so profoundly compelling." Winner of 133 Sports Emmy® Awards, NFL Films remains a gold standard in sports television, providing unprecedented access to and legendary storytelling about the sport of professional football. NFL Films is a part of NFL Media, the owned and operated media division of the National Football League, which is comprised of NFL Network, NFL Films, the NFL App, NFL.com and NFL RedZone. |
