ATLANTA’S YOUNG FINED NEW YORK, Feb. 11, 2021 – Atlanta Hawks guard Trae Young has been fined $20,000 for directing inappropriate language toward a game official, it was announced today by Kiki VanDeWeghe, Executive Vice President, Basketball Operations. The incident occurred following the Hawks’ 118-117 loss to the Dallas Mavericks at American Airlines Center on Feb. 10. The play that Young disputed was correctly ruled a no-call. Under the playing rules, Dallas’ Willie Cauley-Stein was entitled to a normal step on a screen from behind, which he took, and which led to incidental and legal contact between Cauley-Stein and Young. FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2021 to start in Doha in March |
|
February 9, 2021DOHA (Qatar) – The tenth edition of the FIBA 3x3 World Tour will begin in Doha, Qatar on March 26-27, 2021. The number one competition of the FIBA 3x3 professional circuit will be back just three months after Team Riga (LAT) won their first title. This will mark the second year in a row the World Tour makes a stop in Doha, in the Al Gharafa Sports Complex, a state-of-the-art outdoors venue. The event will be hosted by the Qatar Basketball Federation, with the support of the Qatar Olympic Committee. All the health and safety measures requested by local and national authorities and the Guidelines for the Return to Basketball, developed by the FIBA Medical Advisory Group (MAG), which were successfully introduced in the FIBA 3x3 World Tour 2020, will be implemented once again. The decision to have fans at the venue will be taken closer to the event. Fourteen teams are expected to compete in the World Tour opener, including the top 8 teams in the FIBA 3x3 Team Ranking (at the end of the team validation period, meaning February 15) and the hosts. More Masters will be announced at a later stage. ### Exciting, urban and innovative, 3x3 is inspired by several forms of streetball played worldwide and is considered the world’s number one urban team sport. Steered by FIBA, games see two teams of three players face off on a basketball half-court. It was played successfully for the first time in international competition at the 2010 Youth Olympic Games in Singapore and since then has benefited from the launch of a yearly city-based FIBA 3x3 World Tour and national-team FIBA 3x3 World & Continental Cups. On 9 June 2017, 3x3 was added to the Olympic Program, starting from the Tokyo Games. Wilson is the Global Ball and Apparel Partner and Tissot the Official Timekeeper of FIBA 3x3. FIBA 3x3 events are played on Enlio floors with Wilson balls, Schelde backstops, and the Magic Sky canopy system.
