NFL HOSTS “BRIDGE TO SUCCESS” PROGRAM |
League helps prepare former NFL players for life off the field
New York, NY – More than 100 NFL Legends and their significant others will take part in the NFL's Bridge to Success program from Oct. 18-21 in San Diego, Ca. Hosted annually, Bridge to Success will provide players the opportunity to celebrate their past career, assess their present, and provide them with best practices and actionable items to promote future success.
On day one, each attendee will be paired with a transition coach to develop personal goals and identify the resources needed to reach them. In addition to personalized mentorship, throughout the program participants will engage in panels, breakout sessions, and networking designed to prepare them for the next chapter of their lives and post-football careers.
"The Bridge to Success meets a very real need for former NFL players during their transition into a post-football career," said KEITH ELIAS, Director of NFL Player Engagement, and former New York Giants and Indianapolis Colts running back. "I look forward to helping inspire this next round of NFL Legends and hope that we provide them valuable insight that propels them into the next chapter of their lives."
This year's agenda features sessions with topics on NFL player benefits, interview training, LinkedIn training, introductions to careers in various industries, and more. The program also includes a networking event, encouraging all attendees grow their professional connections. Over 40 Fortune 500 companies, including Amazon and Pepsi, will be onsite to meet with and interview attendees on the final day of the program.
"Every player's transition is unique. Some struggle more than others, but we all go through it," said BEN HARTSOCK, 2016 Bridge to Success participant. "Through this program, I enjoyed reconnecting with teammates and meeting players who came before and after my time. We learned about available resources provided by the NFL and NFLPA, and were led through several insightful exercises that helped provide clarity in our career, relationships, personal development and more."
The Bridge to Success is one of several training platforms that NFL Player Engagement offers to empower and equip former players for their post-on-field NFL experiences. For more information on how the league supports players both on and off the field, click here.
STATEMENT FROM NFL COMMISSIONER ROGER GOODELL ON THE PASSING OF U.S. REPRESENTATIVE ELIJAH CUMMINGS |
"I was deeply saddened to learn this morning of the passing of Congressman Elijah Cummings. Congressman Cummings was a favorite son of Baltimore and his beloved district was always close to his heart, whether partnering with the Baltimore Ravens to advance social justice or inviting the NFL to speak to hundreds of high school students about the importance of fair competition and staying away from performance-enhancing drugs. As an attorney, judge, state delegate, and Member of the House of Representatives, he dedicated his remarkable life to serving others with character, integrity, and compassion. The NFL joins the Baltimore Ravens in extending our sincere condolences to the Congressman's family, constituents, and friends throughout the country."

Established in 1956, the NFLPA has a long history of assuring proper recognition and representation of players' interests. The NFLPA has shown that it will do whatever is necessary to assure that the rights of players are protected—including ceasing to be a union, if necessary, as it did in 1989.

ACARREANDO ANOTACIONES A DIESTRA Y SINIESTRA.
Week 7 NFL preview |
NFL ON THRILLING PACE WITH 100TH GAME ON TAP
To help celebrate the NFL’s 100th season, each week will feature an NFL 100 Game of the Week. Each game is a nod to a momentous game played, a fierce rivalry that spans decades, a matchup of original teams and/or a game in which history was made . The NFL has designated Sunday’s Raiders-Packers matchup as the NFL100 Game of the Week because the contest involves teams that made indelible memories in three previous meetings. Most memorable was Super Bowl II, Jan. 14, 1968, at the Orange Bowl in Miami, Fla., the final game of VINCE LOMBARDI’s Green Bay coaching career. The Packers, fresh off their Ice Bowl win over the Cowboys, held off the AFL champion Raiders, 33-14. … Nearly 25 years later, late in a frigid game against the L.A. Raiders on Dec. 26, 1993, LeROY BUTLER forced a Raiders fumble recovered by Pro Football Hall of Famer REGGIE WHITE. After rumbling 10 yards, White lateraled to Butler, who covered the remaining 25 yards into the end zone and invented the Lambeau Leap as Green Bay clinched a playoff berth … Then, on Dec. 22, 2003, in Oakland, Pro Football Hall of Famer BRETT FAVRE, only a day after his father’s death, threw for 399 yards and four touchdowns before a Monday Night Football television audience, leading Green Bay to a pivotal win that catapulted the Packers to the playoffs. … Incidentally, following the Raiders’ loss to Lombardi’s Packers in Super Bowl II, the Raiders won the next five meetings with Green Bay, and wouldn’t lose to the Packers again for 23 years, capturing three Super Bowls in that span.
MOST COMPETITIVE CONTESTS EVER: No other season through six weeks has produced more games decided by seven-or-fewer points than 2019. This year, 51 of 92 games (55.4 percent) have been decided by seven-or-fewer points, including nine of 14 games in Week 6. This season also is tied for the most one-point games through Week 6 since the 1970 merger.

100TH OF THE 100TH: One of the early contests Sunday will mark the 100th game of the NFL’s 100th season. The league has completed 92 games entering this week. As the 100th kickoff approaches, several NFL players and teams are on pace to challenge some of the game’s most esteemed records.
The week begins Thursday (8:20 PM ET, FOX/NFLN/AMAZON) at Empower Field at Mile High, where PATRICK MAHOMES and the KANSAS CITY CHIEFS meet JOE FLACCO and the DENVER BRONCOS. With 2,104 passing yards, Mahomes is on pace to break the single-season NFL record held by former Denver quarterback PEYTON MANNING (5,477 in 2013).
On Sunday afternoon (4:25 PM ET, FOX), LAMAR JACKSON and the BALTIMORE RAVENS travel to meet RUSSELL WILSON and the SEATTLE SEAHAWKS. Wilson has a passer rating over 100 in each of Seattle’s first six games and is on pace to break two single-season NFL records held by AARON RODGERS, his 122.5 passer rating in 2011 and his 0.34 interception percentage in 2018. Meanwhile, Jackson last week had 236 passing yards and a career-high 152 rushing yards with a touchdown in a 23-17 win over Cincinnati. His 152 rushing yards were the fourth-most by a quarterback in a single game in NFL history, including the postseason. Jackson, who registered his third career game with at least 115 rushing yards, is the first quarterback in the Super Bowl era to register at least 115 rushing yards in at least three games in his first two seasons.
To close Week 7 on Monday Night Football (8:15 PM ET, ESPN), the NEW ENGLAND PATRIOTS visit the NEW YORK JETS. New England has held NFL quarterbacks this season to a 42.6 passer rating. Over a full season since 2000, the 2002 Tampa Bay Buccaneers have held opponents to the lowest passer rating, 48.4. New England also through six weeks has outscored opponents by 142 points. Since the 1970 merger, only the 1999 Super Bowl champion St. Louis Rams (plus-154) had a higher point-differential through six weeks.

PLENTY OF HEARTBEATS REMAINING: Hope is in plentiful supply across the NFL. That’s because in 2018 after Week 7, five of the 12 teams that qualified for the playoffs were either .500 or below in the NFL standings. After this week concludes on Monday night at MetLife Stadium, it’s very likely that at least one team sitting at .500 or below will still make the playoffs. Since 2011, at least one team has qualified for the playoffs after beginning the year at-or-below .500 through Week 7.

Week 7 of the NFL’s 100th season kicks off on Thursday, October 17 (8:20 PM ET, FOX/NFL Network/Amazon Prime), as the Kansas City Chiefs travel to Denver to visit the Broncos in an AFC West showdown. It will mark the 118th regular-season meeting in the rivalry, with the Chiefs holding the all-time series advantage, 63-54. Kansas City has won the past seven meetings, including both 2018 matchups by a combined 11 points.
Kansas City quarterback PATRICK MAHOMES enters Thursday night with 7,485 passing yards in 24 career games and needs 15 yards to become the fastest player in NFL history to reach 7,500 passing yards. In 2019, Mahomes leads the league with 2,104 passing yards through Week 6 while ranking second in passer rating (111.9) and tied for second in touchdown passes (14). Wide receiver TYREEK HILL had his sixth career game with at least two touchdown catches in last week, the most in the NFL since 2017. Tight end TRAVIS KELCE aims for his fifth game in a row against the Broncos with a touchdown catch, and his 762 career receiving yards against Denver are the most against any opponent in his career.
In Week 6, Denver won its second consecutive game, defeating Tennessee, 16-0, as kicker BRANDON McMANUS converted all three of his field-goal attempts and running back PHILLIP LINDSAY rushed for 70 yards and the game’s only touchdown. Running back ROYCE FREEMAN added 76 scrimmage yards (42 receiving, 34 rushing) and a team-high five catches in the win. Lindsay (544 scrimmage yards) and Freeman (429) are the only pair of running back teammates each with at least 400 scrimmage yards in 2019.
