Y comienza la nueva temporada de la NFL con la defensa
del campeonato de los Patriots. Todo empezó bien en la nueva temporada para los
Patriots y finalizando el 3er periodo estaban ganando 27-21. Ahí comenzó la
virazón de los Chiefs, quienes ganaron 42-27 el juego, con un 4to parcial de
21-0, aguando la celebración del campeonato que New England ganó en el Super
Bowl pasado viniendo de abajo 28-3 ante los Falcons. La defensa de los Chiefs
no tan solo dejo en 0 TD al gran Tom Brady, si no que es la 1era derrota en la
era de Brady que los Patriots pierden en juego (105-1) cuando entran al 4to
parcial arriba en el marcador, también es la 1era vez que los Patriots permiten
42 puntos en la era del coach Bill Belichick. Alex Smith lanzó 4 TD en el juego
por los Chiefs y Kareem Hunt estableció una marca de más yardas desde el scrimmage
en su debut con 246 yardas. Hunt recibió dos TD y corrió para uno adicional. La
ofensiva de New England la marcó Mike Gillislee con tres rush TD’s.
Los Ravens blanquearon 20-0 a los Bengals al propinarle 5
sacks y 4 intercepciones al QB Andy Dalton. Joe Flacco lanzó un TD, Terrance
West aportó un rush TD y Justin Tucker se fue de 2-2 en Field Goals. Tyrod
Taylor lanzó dos TD en la victoria 21-12 de los Bills sobre los Jets. Mike
Tolbert corrió para un TD. Los Jaguars abusaron 29-7 de los Texans con una 1era
mitad que ganaron 19-0, un TD lanzado de Blake Bortles y 3 Field Goals de Jason

Carr lanzó dos TD en el triunfo 26-16 de sus Raiders sobre los Titans. Giorgio

Los Falcons esta vez no permitieron que le sacaran el
juego del buche y mantuvieron la ventaja para vencer 23-17 a los Bears. Matt
Ryan lanzó un TD, Devonta Freeman completó un rush TD y Matt Bryant se fue de
3-3 en Field Goals. Ben Roethlisberger lanzó dos TD a las manos de Jesse James
para que sus Steelers vencieran 21-18 a los Browns. Antonio Brown recibió 11
pelotas para un total de 182 yardas en su debut de temporada. Los Browns tienen
13 derrotas consecutivas en juegos inaugurales y Big Ben con 11 victorias sobre
los Browns sobrepasa el total de victorias de todos los QB de los Browns desde

Bradford en el retorno de Adrian Peterson a Minnesota pero en uniforme de los
Saints. Precisamente fue su reemplazo, el novato Dalvin Cook, quien rompió la
marca franquicia de Peterson de más yardas corriendo en su debut con 127
yardas. Los Broncos vencieron 24-21 a los Chargers gracias a dos TD lanzados y
uno corriendo de Trevor Siemian. Philip Rivers lanzó 3 TD en la derrota.
CFL/NFL Flag Football tournament to take place at Grey Cup week in Ottawa, winner to compete in the NFL FLAG Championships during Pro Bowl Week
The Canadian Football League (CFL) and National Football League (NFL) today launched a flag football program that will engage hundreds of kids across the country. The program for Canadian youth will culminate in a national flag football tournament during the week of the 105th Grey Cup presented by Shaw in Ottawa, with the winner travelling to Pro Bowl week in Orlando, FL to participate in the NFL FLAG Championships.
The CFL/NFL Flag Football initiative will teach kids the fundamentals of the game and promote physical activity. Alongside skills development, participants will receive lessons in teamwork, sportsmanship, and other lessons that help them succeed both on and off the field.
"This flag football tournament series is an exciting example of our continued commitment to grow the game," said Glen Johnson, CFL Senior Vice President of Football. "Developing programming for youth football with our partners at the NFL promotes a healthy lifestyle and the continued success of our sport in a fun and safe way."
"We are excited to partner with the CFL on youth initiatives in Canada," added David Thomson, Managing Director, NFL Canada. "Both leagues share the goal of strengthening the interest, awareness and participation in football among Canadians. This is a great opportunity to showcase the talent, dedication and achievements of local flag leagues during the CFL's Grey Cup week in Ottawa and the NFL's Pro Bowl week in Orlando, Florida."
Coed teams of 11-12-year old athletes will take part in nine regional tournaments to be held in CFL cities throughout the fall, coming together for a national tournament during Grey Cup week in the nation's capital. The winner of this tournament will compete in the NFL FLAG Championships during Pro Bowl week next January in Orlando, FL.
Each regional tournament will feature eight teams with a maximum 10 players each. Participants will meet current CFL players, interact with CFL cheer teams and mascots, and enjoy football-themed games and activities alongside their matches in each CFL market. Each regional tournament's victorious team will win a trip to Ottawa to play in the CFL/NFL Flag Football Championship during Grey Cup Week.

- BC: Saturday, September 30th at W.J. Mouat Secondary in Abbotsford, BC

- Ottawa: Sunday, October 15th at TD Place Stadium
- Calgary: Sunday, October 15th at Shouldice Athletic Park
- Hamilton: Sunday, October 22nd at Tim Hortons Field
- Winnipeg: Sunday, October 22nd at Investors Group Field
- Toronto: Saturday, October 28th at Birchmount Stadium
National tournament:

SEC COUNTRY: Alabama and LSU tied for the most players on NFL Kickoff 2017 active rosters with 39 each, the NFL announced today. LSU has ranked first the past three years, with 42 players in 2016, 40 in 2015 and 38 in 2014 on Kickoff Weekend rosters.

THE TALL AND SHORT OF IT: On NFL Kickoff rosters, there were 291 players weighing under 200 pounds, 286 players under six feet tall, and 332 players weighing over 300 pounds.
San Francisco has 14 players weighing less than 200 pounds, the most of any team in that category. New England and Tampa Bay have the most players under six-feet tall with 13 each. Detroit and Green Bay both have 13 players weighing over 300 pounds, the most in the league.

NFL Foundation to Contribute $1 Million to Hurricane Irma Relief Efforts
The NFL Foundation will contribute $1 million to Hurricane Irma relief efforts to be split evenly between the American Red Cross and the five living former American Presidents' One America Appeal, it was announced today.
Both organizations will address the immediate needs of those impacted throughout Florida and the Florida Keys, while some of the Red Cross funds will support the hardest hit areas in the Caribbean.
The NFL Foundation's donation will match the respective $1 million contributions of the Jacksonville Jaguars to Florida's First Coast Relief Fund, the Miami Dolphins to the AARP Foundation Miami Dolphins Hurricane Irma Relief Fund and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to the American Red Cross.
Our thoughts are with the various communities impacted by both Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma during this difficult time. The entire NFL family – including players, teams, and fans – is committed to continuing to support relief efforts.

MAESTROS DE LA CAPTURA. Los JACKSONVILLE JAGUARS, liderados por las cuatro capturas del el ala defensiva CALAIS CAMPBELL, registraron 10 capturas en su victoria de la primera semana en Houston, un pico de liga.

IRRUMPIENDO EN ESCENA. Tres novatos –el de Kansas City KAREEM HUNT (148), el de Minnesota DALVIN COOK (127) y el de Jacksonville LEONARD FOURNETTE (100)– acarrearon al menos 100 yardas cada uno en sus respectivos debuts en la NFL la semana pasada.
Con otro desempeño de 100 yardas terrestres en la segunda semana, Cook, Fournette y Hunt podrían cada uno convertirse en el primer novato desde 2005 (CADILLAC WILLIAMS) con al menos 100 yardas por tierra en cada uno de los primeros dos partidos de su equipo en la temporada.

HISTORY IN THE MAKING: New England quarterback TOM BRADY and New Orleans quarterback DREW BREESwill meet for the third time in their careers when the Saints host the Patriots on Sunday. Program Expands with New Virtual Classroom Experience
in all 32 NFL Markets and Addition of 360 Schools
Character PlaybookTM, a digital character education program powered by digital learning innovator EVERFI, Inc. and presented by the NFL and United Way, has helped 88,000 middle school students in nearly 30 states learn how to cultivate and maintain healthy relationships in its first year.
Building off this success, the program will expand to 360 more schools and introduce a new virtual classroom experience called Character Playbook LIVE. These interactive events, hosted by NFL teams and United Ways beginning in Week 2 of the regular season, will engage more students in the important conversation of why character matters. NFL players will host live events with their local United Way. For the second year, Verizon will sponsor an additional 220 schools in 11 select markets.
Data compiled by EVERFI during the program's first year indicates that approximately 1,300 teachers helped students complete more than 170,000 hours of learning, which led to increased understanding of key social-emotional topics—a 41 percent increase based on pre- and post-assessment scores.
By the end of the program's first year:
- 74 percent of students were more likely to believe they deserve to be treated with respect
- 70 percent raised their expectations about how to treat others
- 69 percent said the program helped them identify actions they can take to treat people with respect
- 66 percent better defined the role they can play in resolving conflict

The data around social-emotional learning indicates a growing need in classrooms. The Collaborative for Academic, Social, and Emotional Learning found that students who participated in Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) programs saw an 11 percentile point gain in achievement in social and emotional skills, attitudes, behavior and academic performance. Character Playbook is addressing these issues head on and supporting students in building the skills they need to be successful contributors to their communities through improved communication skills, recognizing positive and negative influences, managing their emotions, resolving conflicts and stepping up for one another.

The NFL got back to football last weekend and the season now heads into Week 2.
Everybody wants to get off to a good start as history has shown that teams that are victorious in their season openers are more than twice as likely to reach the playoffs than losers of an opening game. But that doesn’t mean an 0-1 start is impossible to overcome as nearly 25 percent of teams that lost the opener went to the playoffs.
Since 1978 when the NFL went to the 16-game schedule (and excluding the abbreviated season of 1982):
Of the 570 teams which won openers… 297 went to the playoffs (179 won division titles)
Of the 571 teams which lost openers… 137 went to the playoffs (79 won division titles)
(Note: There are a different number of winning and losing teams in season opening games due to the fact that the NFL had 31 teams in each season from 1999 to 2001, which creates an odd number for the total number of results.)
Week 2 kicks off with Thursday Night Football as the Houston Texans visit the Cincinnati Bengals (NFL Network, 8:25 PM ET). The two teams have combined for nine playoff berths since 2011 (Cincinnati, five and Houston, four).
On Sunday afternoon, the Chargers make their return to Los Angeles for the franchise’s first home game in LA since 1960 as the team hosts the Miami Dolphins in their regular-season home opener at StubHub Center (4:05 PM ET, CBS). And, that night in primetime (8:30 PM ET, NBC), the Atlanta Falcons will open their new home – Mercedes-Benz Stadium – when they host the Green Bay Packers in a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship Game on Sunday Night Football.
Here’s a look at a few interesting storylines entering Week 2:
PHILADELPHIA EAGLES (1-0) at KANSAS CITY CHIEFS (1-0) (Sunday, FOX, 1:00 PM ET)
- Philadelphia quarterback CARSON WENTZ passed for 307 yards and two touchdowns – including a 58-yard TD to wide receiver NELSON AGHOLOR – in the Eagles’ 30-17 win at Washington. Wentz improved to 4-0 in his career as a starter in the month of September with seven touchdown passes, one interception and a 101.8 passer rating.

- This will be the first regular-season NFL game at Atlanta’s Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The stadium, which will host Super Bowl LIII on February 3, 2019, is expected to have its unique retractable roof open for this game (weather conditions permitting) for the first time.
- The contest is a rematch of last season’s NFC Championship Game which the Falcons won 44-21. Atlanta quarterback MATT RYAN passed for 392 yards and scored five touchdowns (four passing, one rushing) in that game while wide receiver JULIO JONES had nine catches for 180 yards and two TDs.

- The Lions opened the season with a 35-23 win over Arizona as the team rallied from a 17-15 fourth-quarter deficit. Last season, Detroit won eight games when trailing in the fourth quarter, the most by a team in a single season in NFL history.
- Detroit quarterback MATTHEW STAFFORD passed for 292 yards and four touchdowns in the win over the Cardinals and has 27 game-winning drives in the fourth quarter or overtime since 2011, the most by a QB in the NFL over that span. Rookie wide receiver KENNY GOLLADAYhad two touchdown catches in the fourth quarter, including a 45-yarder, in his NFL debut.
- The Giants have won 50 home openers in franchise history and are one of only four teams all-time with at least 50 victories in home openers.
- Last week at Dallas, Giants quarterback ELI MANNING started his 200th consecutive game, joining Pro Football Hall of Famer BRETT FAVRE (297) and PEYTON MANNING (208) as the only quarterbacks in NFL history to start at least 200 consecutive games.
