NFL TO HOST INAUGURAL NFL COACHING CLINIC JUNE 16-18
As part of ongoing efforts to strengthen our game through the development of coaches and players, the National Football League will host the inaugural NFL COACHING CLINICJune 16-18 at the New York Jets’ Atlantic Health Training Center in Florham Park, New Jersey.
Bringing together more than 60 current NFL coaches, the coaching clinic will provide a foundation for communicating and teaching position fundamentals through engaging and interactive sessions. This year’s program will focus on the quarterback, offensive line, linebacker and defensive line positions. Participants were nominated by NFL clubs and include team representatives who currently have one-to-three years of coaching experience.
“Our peer-to-peer model brings together the best in football to exchange ideas, get into the nuances of coaching, and inspire the next generation of great coaches,” said Troy Vincent, NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations. “There are so many aspects to coaching beyond the Xs and Os, and this affords our younger coaches a first-hand opportunity to see models of best practices and achievement from coaches with more experience.”
During the three-day event, a panel of speakers composed of retired or inactive coaches renowned for their coaching success and their reputation as teachers will instruct and demonstrate techniques, discuss effective communication, and share perspectives on best practices. There will also be presentations, panel discussions, breakout sessions and on-the-field demonstrations.
Topics will include best practices for communicating with players, basic mechanics for each position, fundamentals in the contact zone, building player confidence, and improving timing and recognition skills.
“This NFL coaching clinic is a wonderful undertaking,” says former NFL executive and Hall of Famer Bill Polian. “It gives young coaches an opportunity to learn skills and technique from the very best coaching minds in the game. I look forward very much to participating in it.”

Rookie Tackle, a bridge game between flag football and 11-player tackle, is designed to introduce young athletes to tackle football. In alignment with the U.S. Olympic Committee's American Development Model (ADM), USA Football will pilot Rookie Tackle this fall as part of a long-term athlete development pathway in the sport.A fun, skill-development-centric version of the game for young athletes, Rookie Tackle will be evaluated throughout an 11-league pilot season. This version of football delivers a progression practiced in a variety of sports, including tee-ball to "coach pitch" to "player pitch" in baseball. A key outcome of the pilot is to learn how players, parents, coaches and youth league commissioners embrace its concept and how it may be improved for a wider spectrum of youth sports programs in future seasons. Youth players' physical activity also will be measured to gauge fitness benefits specific to the small-sided game. Similar versions of the sport have been played in some youth leagues for years. USA Football continues its commitment to innovative new standards by introducing the USOC's ADM to football through Rookie Tackle, joining a family of initiatives including Heads Up Football, which advances coaching education and safer play in high schools and youth leagues nationwide. Kyle, the head football coach at Cleveland St. Ignatius High School, also serves as the Cleveland Browns' youth football advisor. Kyle has helped the Browns become the first NFL team to assist USA Football in establishing a Rookie Tackle pilot league. FOUR INTERNATIONAL PLAYERS ADDED TO
PRACTICE SQUADS FOR 2017 SEASON
Four teams will carry an additional overseas player on their practice squads during the 2017 season as part of a new International Player Pathway program, the NFL announced today.Teams from the NFC South division will each be given an exemption for an eleventh practice squad member – ineligible to be activated during the season – with three of the players selected coming from the UK and one from Germany. The NFC South was chosen to receive the international players in a random draw. The players include former England rugby star Alex Gray (who will join the Atlanta Falcons); recent college players Alex Jenkins (New Orleans Saints) and Eric Nzeocha(Tampa Bay Buccaneers); and defensive end Efe Obada (Carolina Panthers), who was originally signed by the Dallas Cowboys in 2015. For the past three months, the players have been training alongside NFL players and draft hopefuls in Florida, under the supervision of two-time Super Bowl winner Osi Umenyioraand NFLUK head of football development, Aden Durde. "This is going to change people's lives," said Umenyiora. "They have a great opportunity. They are going to be seen not only by their new teams but by everyone who might imagine they can be NFL players. They will inspire people around the globe; people who never thought they had a chance to make it to the NFL. Now they see they have a viable pathway. These guys have worked very hard for this chance and I am confident they will make a great contribution to their teams while improving their skills and understanding of the game." The four players taking part in the 2017 International Player Pathway Program are: ALEX GRAY, Tight End (UK), Age: 26 – Atlanta Falcons Born and raised in Bishop Auckland, England, Gray captained England's rugby teams at Under-16, Under-18, Under-20 and International Sevens levels and played for Newcastle Falcons and London Irish. He was named in the original extended Great Britain Sevens squad for the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio, before suffering an injury. He signed for Yorkshire Carnegie for the 2016-17 rugby season and recently decided to convert to American football. "I have been working hard for this goal and to be told it was going to happen was an amazing moment," he said. "This is the start of another journey. It is a fantastic thing that is happening, but I am not going to get to where I want to be without keeping myself grounded. Making the decision to give this my all from rugby, there was a big transition period and it was mentally very humbling. When you have to start from scratch again, that was a huge mental battle for me. When I look back I will be very proud of the way I approached this.' ALEX JENKINS, Defensive End (UK), Age: 24 – New Orleans Saints Born and raised in Bath, England, he began playing football at the Bath City Academy and for the Bristol Aztecs, earning a spot on the Great Britain youth team. Having been selected to participate in an all-star high school camp in Virginia, he earned a scholarship to play college football at the University of the Incarnate Word in San Antonio, Texas. He was a three-year starter as defensive end at UIW, posting 3.5 sacks in his senior year. "This is a chance to develop and become a player in the NFL," Jenkins said. "It has been a pretty intense time. It feels too good to be true. I always thought I would be trying to do this on my own until NFL International found me. The fact that the Saints will be playing in London this season [vs Miami Dolphins at Wembley Stadium on October 1] makes it even more exciting for me." ERIC NZEOCHA, Linebacker (Germany), Age: 24 – Tampa Bay Buccaneers Nzeocha began playing football for the Franken Knights youth team in Neusitz, Germany, and was selected for the German national junior team. He played three years at the University of Wyoming, switching from tight end to linebacker before the 2015 season. His brother, Mark, is a linebacker for the Dallas Cowboys. "It is overwhelming, one of the greatest moments of my life," said Nzeocha when hearing the news of his placement. "It has been my dream since I started playing football at the age of 14. When they told me this was happening I was overwhelmed. I am looking forward to it so much. It's unreal." EFE OBADA, Defensive End (UK), Age: 25 – Carolina Panthers Raised in London after arriving from the Netherlands at age 10, Obada signed as a free agent for the Dallas Cowboys in 2015 after playing only five games of amateur football with the London Warriors. He played in the preseason for the Cowboys and spent part of the 2015 season on the club's practice squad. He has since had spells on the rosters of the Kansas City Chiefs and Atlanta Falcons. "I am very happy and excited about the opportunity," he said. "I feel like this is something I need to progress and further my career. I am very grateful to the guys who have worked with us and put their neck on the lines for us. It's a chance to develop my skills and it is going to be nice to be in that NFL environment again."
2018 PRO BOWL RETURNS TO ORLANDO FOLLOWING SUCCESSFUL FIRST YEAR

Following the success of its first year in Orlando, the PRO BOWL will return to Camping World Stadium on Sunday, January 28 at 3:00 PM ET, the NFL announced today. The game will be televised on ESPN and ESPN Deportes, and simulcast on ABC, marking the first time it will air on both broadcast and cable networks. It will also be streamed live on the ESPN app, and audio coverage will be available on Westwood One, SiriusXM NFL Radio, and on the TuneIn app.For the second consecutive year, the NFL will host PRO BOWL WEEK festivities across the Orlando area, bringing new experiences and activities as well as an extraordinary number of events focused on commemorating all levels of football – from youth to high school to the NFL's best. Renewal provides the continued implementation of Bose game-changing headset technology to all NFL sidelines
May 23, 2017 -- Bose Corporation and the National Football League today announced they have signed a multi-year extension to their sponsorship agreement which designates Bose as the official headphone and headset of the NFL.
An official NFL sponsor since 2011, Bose will continue to design, engineer and manufacture headsets for the coaching staffs of all 32 NFL clubs to use in-game, enhancing sideline and booth communications in a variety of areas, including play-calling and instant replay. The Bose headsets were built from the ground-up specifically for the demands of football, and use proprietary technology found in the company’s military and aviation headsets to deliver superior audio, noise cancellation, rugged durability and long-wear comfort.

NFL-CFL OFFICIATING DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM EXPANDED FOR 2017 SEASON
As part of an ongoing collaborative effort to develop football personnel, the National Football League and Canadian Football League today announced the expansion of the NFL-CFL Officiating Development Program.
Six NFL officials – an increase from four in the first year of the program in 2016 – will work as part of CFL crews during preseason and regular-season games in June and July, prior to starting their NFL season at the league’s annual officiating clinic in late July.
In addition, six CFL officials – up from three in 2016 – will join the NFL’s Officiating Development Program, which is designed to train top officials in all aspects of NFL officiating. Elements of the program include attending NFL minicamps and training camps, officiating preseason games, studying position-specific film with veteran NFL officials, reviewing mechanics and analyzing rules differences between the NFL and other leagues, including the CFL and college football.
“Working together to develop a sustainable pipeline of highly qualified and experienced officials is in the best interest of both of our leagues,” said NFL Executive Vice President of Football Operations TROY VINCENT. “We continue to explore how to collaborate on providing more on-field experience for our officials as well as developing a broad range of football personnel. This is a partnership that makes good sense.”
The NFL officials that worked in the CFL in 2016 were deep wing officials – side judges and field judges – to minimize the impact of some of the rules differences between the two leagues. This year, the program will also include a back judge – a deep official positioned in the middle of the field.
“The CFL officials that participated in the development program last year benefited greatly from it,” said CFL Senior Vice-President, Football GLEN JOHNSON. “We’re excited that the NFL saw enough merit in it to want to expand the program. This will give more of our officials the opportunity for enhanced professional development activities in order to continue to improve their performance on the field.”
